I don't care if we get into the Sugar Bowl. It would be great if we did, but that's not what's important to me. I was thinking back today to 1999. Thinking back to A loss to Houston in which no body did anything. Thinking back to when Josh Booty jumped at the Tide goalline. Thinking back to Duece and Gunn running all over us in the Baton Rouge rain. Thinking back to four years ago and comparing it to this weekend. Four years ago we had just upset cotton bowl-bound Arkansas and had no idea nick saban was even slightly interested in the LSU job. Four years ago we had just lost the most important player, in the past 25 years of LSU football, Kevin Faulk. We had a potential hometown hero in Josh Booty, who had one of the worst possible easons imaginable. Rondel Meally was leaving for the NFL and we really didn't know who would pick up his slack. Four years ago Bradie James and Trev faulk were our only real hope for the future. Four years ago we didn't have a defensive line that could stop anyone, or an offensive line that could push around anyone. Four years later, the entire nation is talking about LSU being #2 or #3? Are you kidding me? Four years later we just beat everyone in our division, four years later we just went 7-1 in the SEC and are going to the SEC Championship game for the second time in 3 years? As much as I'd love to be the #2 team in the nation. That doesn't matter to me. What matters is that when I travel around and wear my LSU hat people tell me how impressed with our team. When I turn on ESPN, FOX or Sporting news radio people aren't talking about Auburn or Florida, Bama or Tennessee, people are talking about LSU. I'm tired of rooting for Washington to beat Washington State, I'm tired of rooting for Bama to beat Hawaii or La Tech to beat SMU. I really don't care about those teams. The national championship picture and the bowl games will work themselves out. If we go this year or not, we know we'll have the chance to go next year. All I care about is LSU beating Georgia and winning the SEC. I care about LSU going to the Rose, Sugar or Fiesta bowl and beating the shit out of who ever we play. I care about LSU football and LSU football players. GO TIGERS, BEAT GEORGIA!
GREAT POST, what I've been stewing over a while. Geaux Tigers get the SEC again. Man, it's great to say "again." If we can snag the SEC every 2-4 years whew. The tigers have had the best season in many years, and I think Nick has done it with less talent than the 2001 season. God it's great to be a fan!
It's ok to be #2. They'll like my hat and won't think I'm some shit-shoveller from Louisiana ... my ribs are hurting from laughing Flintstone. I THINK NOT! This is a 1-shot in a lifetime deal ... whatever it takes short of bombing the USC FB team ... GET TO THE TOP. Two Times Pic Articles ... scenarios ... same old story ... #2 AP http://www.nola.com/lsu/t-p/football/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1070175917192850.xml http://www.nola.com/lsu/t-p/football/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1070175626192850.xml
I often wear an LSU shirt when traveling. The only comments I used to get were about Shaquille O'Neal. Now, even the security people smile and mention Saban or the Tigers.
In DC I used to either get "What ever happened to Ben McDonald?" or some sort of James Carville thing. I spent a week in DC earlier this month and got 4 comments about LSU football, all positive.
It might even be better In a way, I'd sort of like to let USC go to play Oklahoma. It will be a terrible game--a slaughter. If we go to another bowl, especially if we were to play Michigan in the Rose, and if we win, we'd get LOTS of respect. Sometimes you have to let them have it their way in order to win in the end. I would love to have people say, "LSU should have been there." That would be a better scenario than, say, going to the Sugar and NOT winning. Although I think we'd give Oklahoma everything they'd want, I won't mind being #3 if we beat our opponent solidly. SO NOW BEAT THOSE PUPPIES!
Well, I must say, I am quite happy seeing LSU where it is. And as previously stated, if we don't get a chance at Oklahoma, so be it. We will next year... And as far as what people from out of state say about us... well, I used to always shut them up by asking them how many times their team has won the College World Series... they usually just look at the ground after that and walk away mumbling...
