that I'd read "On the Road", by Jack Kerouac, and I finally did it. Now, I admit that the book might have been a bit more relevant when I first made that promise back in 1968, but I have to say that it surely must be the most overrated novel of all time. Kerouac's adventures were boring, his characters are shallow and boring, his writing style is boring, the whole d*** thing is boring. I forced myself through it. Anybody have any good book suggestions?
Read "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson.... It is a great book about hiking the AT....Walk in the Woods I also recommend "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer about the travels of Christopher McCandless prior to his death. Fascinating book....Into the Wild I chode these two because they were of a similar subject matter to the book you referred. It is amazing how much of a misogynistic fatalist Kerouac was. I agree that the book should be much less valued than it is.
Yes, I've read Into The Wild Loved it, except for that chapter where Krakauer talks about himself too much. What was THAT all about? I'll get "Walk in the Woods" on my next trip to B&N. Thanks for the recommendation.
Rex, your cartoons are AWESOME. How do you draw those? Is there a special animation program? I'd like to see one of Chad Lavalais and Marcus Spears clobbering Eli.
I need a video to start with. If you have an mpeg or avi of Spears and Lavalias crunching Eli, I could do it. Basically, it takes a lot of work. I use Photoshop to trace successive images, then ImageReady to create the animated gif.

If you haven't read it already, "Lonesome Dove" by Larry McMurtry. It's timeless, superbly written. I first read it in 1986 and was up until 3 am every night until I finished it.
