Seems like a number of you follow this sort of thing regularly, and from what I've seen posted here LSU is having an excellent class.

One look at the BCS Standings or the ESPN/USA Today poll will tell you something about the 2003-04 recruiting campaign. Oklahoma is on top and USC is next. One difference, though, is the distance between the teams. While OU has a huge lead in the BCS, their recruiting lead over the Trojans is not as large. But make no mistake about it, Bob Stoops and the Sooners are as dominant in recruiting this year as they have been on the field. How dominant? Two of the nations top three players are likely to end up in Norman.

Five players to watch
1. Adrian Peterson
Running back
6-2, 215
Palestine, Texas
I'm moving Adrian Peterson to my No. 1 player in the country. He's rushed for over 2,400 yards and averaged over 10 yards per carry against great competition. He's easily the best running back that I've seen in the last five years -- and maybe even longer. In my opinion, Peterson is the best back to come out of Texas since Eric Dickerson in 1978. He never looks fast on film, but he runs 10.3 in the 100 meters. On film, it looks as if he is running in normal speed and everyone else is in slow motion. Peterson has surprising power too. If he stays healthy, Peterson will be one of those backs that people will remember for years to come. He is that good. At this point, it looks like Peterson will head to Norman and join the OU juggernaut where he and QB Rhett Bomar should develop into a deadly combination. The Sooners hope to add DT Franklin Okam and OL Herman Johnson among others.

2. Brian Brohm
Quarterback
6-4, 200
Louisville (Trinity), Ken.
QB Brian Brohm would slide from No. 1 to No. 2. His team got off to a slow start this season due in part to the loss of many veterans. Brohm stayed steady, though, and Louisville Trinity improved over the course of the year. He put together a solid senior campaign to solidify his status as the nation's top quarterback. His completion ratio is close to 70 percent. That is not a deceiving number either, Brohm throws the ball vertically, not just short timing patterns. He has a better arm than most people think. Looks like Brohm has narrowed his list to Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame and Tennessee.

3. Rhett Bomar
Quarterback
6-3, 200
Grand Prairie, Texas
Even though he broke his hand and missed some action, QB Rhett Bomar had a solid start to the season and is my No. 3 player. Bomar has terrific all-around skills as a runner or a passer. Oklahoma has a big-time quarterback recruit for the first time in a long time. The Sooners have a legitimate, superstar quarterback on the way to Norman.

4. Jeff Byers
Center
6-4, 280
Loveland, Colo.
Center Jeff Byers remains my No. 4 player in the country. He is the best lineman that I've seen in the last five years. Byers turns and controls his man on almost every single play. I have not seen that kind of consistency in many years. Byers is headed to USC, who does a very good job developing kids. Barring injury, he will be the real deal. If I had to name a national player of the year, Byers would definitely be considered strongly.

5. Ted Ginn
Cornerback
6-1, 170
Cleveland (Glenville), Ohio
DB Ted Ginn has jumped all the way to No. 5 on my top 100 list. His phenomenal senior season made the move very easy. Explosive is the best way to describe him. Ginn picked off eight passes this year and returned five for touchdowns despite the fact that offenses tried to stay away from him. His range is tremendous and no one can touch this player as a cover corner. Ginn is a difference maker. Although Ginn visited Michigan for the Ohio State game and will visit USC and Miami, I think he is destined for Ohio State.

Five recruiting leaders
1. Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners will be tough to beat in the race for the nation's top recruiting class. OU already has commits from three top 100 players: QB Rhett Bomar, LB Chris Patterson and DB Lendy Holmes. The likely addition of RB Adrian Peterson would give them two of the nation's top three players.

2. USC Trojans
The Trojans are right behind the Sooners. All of a sudden, a lot of national players are bringing up USC even more, including DB Ted Ginn from Ohio, LBs Keith Rivers and Brandon Siler from Florida and Dwayne Jarrett from New Jersey. Obviously the Trojans have a huge presence in California, but their recent explosion in the national scene has been phenomenal. Within California, the Trojans are also in hot pursuit of LBs Thomas Herring and Jeff Schweigger. USC already has pledges from top 100 players OL Jeff Byers and DB Sekeli Faaeteete.

3. Miami Hurricanes
Much like the Trojans, the Hurricanes are everywhere. Not only does Miami's name come up with just about every top player in Florida, but it also comes up out of the area -- especially with skill position players. The 'Canes have taken a different approach the last few years, going after players earlier. Miami's top current commits include QB Kirby Freeman, CB J.R. Bryant, RBs Bobby Washington and Charlie Jones and DL Calais Campbell. The 'Canes big remaining targets include WR Xavier Carter and LB Willie Williams.

4. Florida State
The Seminoles have not gotten commits from a lot of guys yet, but their name is popping up with more top 100 players than anyone else except the three schools above them. The 'Noles have received pledges from two top 100 players: QB Drew Weatherford and RB Jamaal Edwards. This list will expand quickly. The two biggest targets for Bobby Bowden and the 'Noles are probably WR Xavier Carter and LB Keith Rivers.

5. Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns are extremely dangerous. While the Horns lost out on Bomar and will probably lose out Peterson, they are in on just about everyone else in Texas and already have a solid group of commits. If Texas can land a few more blue chippers, their class will stay in the top 5. UT's top commitments include WR Jordan Shipley, OL Cedric Dockery, DBs Bobby Tatum and Andrew Kelson and LB Nic Redwine. Two players who could really complete UT's class are DL Franklin Okam and DB Marcus Walker.

Five recruiting sleepers
1. Iowa Hawkeyes
The Hawkeyes always fly below the radar, but the staff does a tremendous job evaluating talent. Iowa seems to be in on everybody in Illinois and has a shot at WR Bryant Creamer and OL Roland Martin among many others. The Hawkeyes are also in on a lot of prospects from the East Coast. DL Dwayne Hendricks, WR Dwayne Jarrett and OL Jeremy Zuttah from New Jersey are considering Iowa. The Hawkeyes are also after OL Dumaka Atkins and TE Octavious Darby from Florida.

2. Oregon Ducks
The Ducks are making noise in California. LB Thomas Herring and WRs Cam Colvin and Derrick Jones are California kids the Ducks are after. LB Kyle Williams from Illinois, who is committed to Iowa, will take a visit to Eugene in January. Oregon will also get kids from Florida to visit. LB Keith Rivers, DB Kyle Jackson and DL Emmanuel Dunbar are the biggest Florida prospects the Ducks are interested in. I think the big Nike association is making a difference for the Ducks nationally.

3. California Golden Bears
The Golden Bears are finally having a presence in California. While they are running into the USC buzz saw, Cal is holding its own with some of the top players -- at least when it comes to visits. The Golden Bears might not steal anyone from USC, but they could make things tough for UCLA.

4. Utah Utes
The Utes are now known throughout the West. Urban Meyer has done a great job in California, Hawaii, Samoa and Arizona. The recent Salt Lake City Olympics brought state-of-the-art facilities to the school, which also helps. If Meyer stays in Salt Lake City for five or six years, Utah will build up a program that will make many schools in the area envious -- including BYU.

5. Kentucky Wildcats
The state of Kentucky is not known for producing a lot of football talent, so the Wildcats have to look elsewhere to supplement its talent base. Rich Brooks and his staff are doing that. I'm hearing Kentucky's name mentioned much more than in the past. Kentucky won't get many of the big-name talent they are recruiting to sign, but they are in on them. Tom Lemming is a moron. He had our class ranked #3 last year I believe, when every other publication had it #1. Don't worry we'll have a top 3 class again.

He's from ESPN, of course he gives LSU no love.

Besides, I think what would make us a Top 3 class is the signings of Marlon Favorite, Early Doucet, Luke Sanders and a few others that have not committed yet. I think based on what we have right now, we aren't Top 5, it's the ones yet to commit that will swing it.

He has Early as #1 WR, & Favorite as # DT.
His rankings are usually way off from what others have.
I like rivals the best, they are based in the south.

what do you expect from an espn/abc homer...

look at the list and everyone in the top 5 are espn/abc television connected. same objectivity we get from alberts, may and "some of the other hitler youth." (animal house)

We're definitely top 5 right now. Claude Wroten, Glenn Dorsey are two awesome DTs. Helms, Holmes, and Miller are all solid OL recruits. E.J. Kuale is a great JUCO LB, and Mario Stevenson is a great JUCO CB. We have a solid top 5 class at the moment, and we will still land Sanders, Favorite, Early, Steltz, and some more HUGE prospects.

Lemming is an overrated West Coast arsehole ... just like USC ... and his annual garbage ... Prep Report ... is due out before X-mas. Go waste your money on it, lol ... it isn't fit for lining Canary cages. The knobhead hates LSU and has to be discredited and shamed into listing LSU in the Top 5 when we have a #1 class. He overrates California kids and West Coast in general and thinks they are a cut above everyone else. He's part of the

ESPN SYNDICATED MONSTER THAT HATES LSU ... he's not a TALKING HEAD ... he never listens to reason ... but he is one of their body parts ... I guess he's the arsehole ... HEY, everybody's got one.

The only Tiger recruit I ever remember Lemming rating very high was Derron Parquet as the #2 RB in the country. He's now the backup at Memphis.
