Just wondering the other day about what football coaches can say to the refs on the sidelines and get away with. In basketball, they'll give you a tech and then toss you if the coach doesn't calm down. Baseball managers are also thrown out of games sometimes. I've never seen a football coach ejected from a game. I'm sure there have been 15 yd penalties or something but that seems pretty rare too. I would think football coaches let the expletives fly on a regular basis. On TV, they're always getting animated about bad calls and yelling at refs. Anyone know more about this? Maybe John Brady is coaching the wrong sport.
I've sure seen Haslett let fly with a choice F-bomb or two a little bit too close to an official's ear...and the flags inevitably come raining down.
I think college coaches get away with a lot. I remember seeing Bob Stoops this year screaming at an official wanting an intentional grounding call on the opposing team. Stoops was 3-05 yards on the playing field and threw his headset down. His brother was two steps behind yelling as well. There was a flag thrown, but it was for intentional grounding......no penalty was assessed to Stoops or OU for unsportsmanlike conduct. I think you see sideline warnings issued by refs to let caoches know hey, back off a little, but I have never seen a flag against a coach, or a coach thrown out of a football game for yelling at a ref.
ejected, I do not know. Fired, yes. But that is an ejectible offense to strike an opposing team's player. he was never ejected for yelling at the refs, which he constantly did.
