I'm an addict. I love the Food Network and any other food related show. Anyone else? My favorite show is Barefoot Contessa. Big love for that Ina. I really like her cooking philosophy-you shouldnt have to slave all day in the kitchen to cook a great meal, but you should use high quality and fresh ingredients. I have most of her cookbooks and the food turns out awesome. I also love Alton Brown. He has a show on Saturday nights (when will my Sat nights be filled with football? When Lord, WHEN?) called Dining on Asphalt where he started at the bottom of the Mississippi river and is working his way up. I forget all the places he went in La-he showed the typical stuff:boudin, andouille, file', alligator... I dont like Rachel Ray (gasp). Everyone seems to love this chick. Why? She has to be the single most annoying tv personality out there. Too many hand motions, and I cant take her cutesy way of naming things-"evoo" and "sammies". This bugs me. Her only redeeming quality is her show $40 a day. I've also began watching Bizarre Foods and No Reservations on the Travel Channel. They're both an "anti" tourist show. They eat weird things and go to a lot of places that the average tourist wouldnt/cant go. So, was wondering what everyone's favorite Food Network shows were...
I kept intending to start this thread, so I'm glad you did. And FoodTV is great in HD. Favorites: Bizarre Foods and No Reservations -- by a VERY wide margin. Actually, these shows are pretty much at the top of my favorite non-sports shows. Especially Bizarre Foods. Good Eats -- Long-time fan of Alton Brown. Corny and educational. Throwdown -- Bobby Flay (who I used to detest) v. experts in their given fields. I like this one just to see the local types and what they do. Used to like Rachael Ray - pretty tired of her now. Emeril -- of course I like this guy, even after all these years. I rarely watch his show, unless he's making something of particular interest to me. Least favorite: Barefoot Contessa -- I actually hate everything about that show. Her uppercrust NY personality, the frufru dishes, the camera work, but mainly her. My mom likes her show a lot though.
! Nooo! Actually, I dont know many guys who like Ina. She's a lot like Martha, and I dont know any dudes who like her. Maybe it's a girl thing.
Iron Chef. Especially the dubbed Japanese version. Hokey as all hell, but you have to love a show where a chef will use $1,000 worth of lobster to flavor the asparagus and then throw it away.
Oh good call. The original Iron Chefs were nearly perfect shows. I liked how they had a rule about the female judges covering their mouths when they laughed. I've tried to implement that rule at a variety of events, but the Western broads just don't get it. :hihi:
The US version of Iron Chef doesn't even come close to the atmosphere of the dubbed version. I LOVED that show. Barefoot Contessa is just OK. I don't dislike her but she isnt a fav. Of course Emiril is still one of my Favs and so is Bobby Flay. An older show that has long been gone is "The Two Hot Tamales". Those girls could cook up a storm of tex-mex type food. Dont know what happened to them but they were excellent.
i love dining on asphault. good call!! i cannot stand rachel ray. annoys the hell out of me. sorry, but she's so bad that i can't even watch $40 a day! yep and yep. cant get any better than the dubbed japanese version. the us version sucks in comparison. that was a good one. i don't know what happened to them either. i like food unwrapped. i like seeing the stories behind and how a lot of commercial foods (seems like its always a candy of some sort) are made. over all, i don't get to watch much tv at all. but when i do, i always at least check and see whats on foodtv.
I HATE food commercials on TV when I'm hungry. BASTIDS. Having to go to the Bell drive through @ 1:30 AM to get the new Chipotle Taco Cheese Wrap Whatever is a pain. But when ya see it on TV..... PAVLOVIAN response I'm tellin' ya.... :hihi:
