Remember Joe Addai's ankle in 2005 that didn't heal all regular season? CLM never really shot straight with the media on the topic, and Joe was never full strength after the Florida game . . . until he exploded on Miami in the Peach Bowl. So far we've heard that Flynn's ankle is tender, that he wore an air cast on Sunday, that he missed practice on Monday, that he had limited practice on Tuesday. We've heard that he's gimpy but X-rays were not required. CLM says he doesn't foresee Matt missing the MTSU game, but that his policy is if a player doesn't practice on Wednesday, he won't play on Saturday. I'm worried about all this. Hope CLM clarifies the issue tonight on his radio show.
Re: Flynn's Akle Like Addai's in '05? Not that I know anything that you don't, but I'm gonna say Flynn dresses but does not play againt MTSU. RP can handle it.
Re: Flynn's Akle Like Addai's in '05? I would hope this is the case. IMO there is really no need to play Flynn unless the game is close and RP is having a tough time.
Re: Flynn's Akle Like Addai's in '05? yea RP gon' get to show what he can do with a whole game's worth of playing time.
Re: Flynn's Akle Like Addai's in '05? He practiced some today and is expected to play. The article also says Miles will say more about Flynn's status later today. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070912/SPORTS0202/709120319/1028
I wouldn't be surprised to see Flynn start, but don't expect him to stay in for more than a quarter if he does. I have to say, I love Flynn, but it would be nice to see more of RP's stuff!
That's what would make me want to play Flynn more, from a coach's perspective that is, last thing we need is a QB controversy. It's not a matter of putting the best team on the field that gives you the best chance to win, I'm all for that. It's the perception some fans have when it's not the truth and the chit starts. In other words, if RP was better, I wouldn't have a problem but some people may "Think" he's better based on a few things that stick in their minds- not to mention that the one on the bench usually has his fair share of fans wanting to see him, at all schools. Take the "Vanilla" and "Holiday" comments that have been flying around since the first game. Does anyone actually believe we've shown everything our offense is going to do? Or that Holiday won't be used in deception at some point in a big game in a critical situation? You can book it, there are many different plays/uses for Holiday that we haven't seen. I'm not aiming these comments at you, just fans in general.
I know you're not aiming them at me! :thumb: One of the reasons why I think Flynn will play on Saturday is to avoid a QB controversy. Have Flynn and the 1st string put some points on the board real quick (hopefully, can't take anything for granted!), then put RP in and substitute freely...as we have done in the past few games. And given that we are supposed to be playing a "gimmie" game this week, subing a bit sooner than last would be expected. I would doubt that we will see much more of the "Wantango" offense with RP in than we did against VT. Actually, I think we'd see a more conservative game like we did against MSU, with a handfull of "fun" (i.e., pass) plays called. Not enough to cause a controversy, as I think the coaching staff is probably more keen than we are to avoid one. But just enough too see a little bit more than we did against VT. Given Flynn's overall performance the last two games, I think he's solidified his place as starter. He's calm and cool, makes good desicions, has the respect of his teammates, is obviously well-prepared, has the confidence that you want in leaders...I could go on. I think he answered any questions some fans still had about him in the VT game. I just know that I and the fans I've talked to personally (I'll admit, that's a small group) are more than happy to have Flynn lead the team this year. At the same time, we're thrilled to see RP get a bit more playing time than most backups would.
