My hometown, which I have been back living in since my divorce a few years ago, got hammered today. About 14" of rain in 8 hours. Massive flooding. I have sketchy internet right now but will be trying to post pics to show y'all what is going on here. Many of my friends have lost their homes today. It is the worst I have ever seen here. This first video is one posted by the Mandeville PD to their Facebook page. It is a public video, so you should be able to see it. The water is about 5 feet deep right in the heart of town. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=977911492297726
My brother had two of his rent houses flood. The creek behind his house was 15 feet higher than normal. It lapped at his back steps. We sandbagged and fortunately, the water has receded a bit for now. Hopefully it stays down. We have the Pearl river bordering us on the east and the Bogue Chitto river on the West. Neither will crest for at least a day. Both are WAY above flood stage now. I can't even leave town to go check on my daughter in Mandeville because all of the bridges are closed. Her phone is down, so I am going crazy trying to check on her.
Thanks Shane. It is pretty f'd up right now. Internet is really spotty so I am having a helluva time trying to post anymore pics. Needless to say, I grew up here and know this town's history. Never have we had this much water this fast. Hopefully it will go down quickly. That said, the amount of people who saw nothing one minute, and 30 minutes later were running for their lives is just crazy. Another short video:
unbelieveable....hope that all will be well....my brother lives a little west of franklinton (richardson community) and he texted the bogue chitto crest. praying for all
We all know it floods in Louisiana but I've never heard of anything like that unless there was a hurricane. We were lucky in Baton Rouge to avoid the worst of it and that BR is on higher ground. God be with all of you.
