I firmly believe that one day we will be able to tell our children and grandchildren that we got to see JaMarcus play in Tiger Stadium; he's got the ability to be that good. Nobody can compare to his raw talent and stature. His composure is top notch. With the right system in place along with the right coaches, who knows what he'll be able to do. I'll definitely miss seeing him in the purple & gold. One more year wouldn't have been fair to the rest of the country and I understand that.... things must change.:bncry: :bncry:
With JaMarcus still here, we would have had a much better shot at the title next year, no doubt. I think the Fla. game was a wake up call to JaMarcus, how much damage one moment of lapsed concentration can do to the team. After that, it seemed to me he had the concentration in effect the rest of the season. It was what I was looking for, the maturity. He developed during the season and he did end the year as the best QB in the country, IMO. I said last year he had the strongest arm I've ever seen anywhere, and that's still true. I think he can be a great pro. I hope he gets good coaching at Oakland or wherever. I hope we look on him as the next Shaq (in football), our next pro superstar someday.
The most memorable game of JaMarcus Russell will be the Notre Dame game. Not only because he was going against the no. 1 QB in the country and outplayed him, not only because, for the first time as an LSU tiger, he unleashes that cannon for an arm he has MULTIPLE times during the game but also because in that month between the bowl and the end of the season, he matured A LOT, he played like a pro, he stood in the pocket like a pro, and the most important thing I will remember about that game is that how he would backup a little, reads the defense, raises both his arms, then audibles if necessary, then makes a great play, and also how he uses the run effectively, he'll keep an eye on recievers and the holes in the line, if no one's open, he'll tuck the ball and run through the hole. Great game, great performance!!!
After the Florida game Jamarcus was overrated and should of been benched by Flynn. Now he is gonna be one of the greatest QBs to come from LSU. Eh
Well, I have gotten into arguments with my sister-in-law (sorry we are the big time LSU football fans in the family) for 3 years about how good I thought JR was going to be. Her defense is "the bad decisions and bad reads --- Flynn wouldn't do that." Like I tell her, "Flynn might not make bad decisions, but I could guarantee you, there isn't another coach in the SEC that would want to face Flynn rather than JaMarcus." I'm comfortable with Flynn and he might turn about to be great, but I can guarantee there will be people wanting R. Perilloux to become the starter. Fast forward to the next year it will be J. Lee. That's how it is my friend, people always love the back-ups when the starter lose. Although, it's kind of disturbing that fans wanted to replace JR and he is now talked about as the possible #1 pick.
JR has done so much MORE than just put up good numbers here. He led us to victory in the 4th quarter numerous times. Even in his first ever game against Oregon State he made the 2 point conversion at the end. He's been doin this stuff his entire career. So many good memories, when has this guy ever let us down at the end of the game? For me, these games stand out: 2005 Capital One Bowl - Led us back from down 12 to the lead 2005 ASU - First Game since Katrina, wins the shootout on a 4th down play 2005 Bama - Winning on the road at the #3 country. JR throws game winner in OT 2006 Tennessee - Throws some early picks, comes back converts 4th down and cooly throws the game winner with a couple ticks left 2006 Ole Miss - I wasn't able to see this game but coming back from being down 20-7 and throwing the game tying (should have been winner) TD on 4th down says a lot about him 2006 Arky/ND - He had total control in both games and he picked them both apart Seriously, this guy is money and whatever team is lucky enough to grab him is getting much more than a Great QB, but a great leader. He put up with all the nay-sayers, "he can't win the big one", and didn't let it get to him. That shows a lot to me. I honestly cannot wait to see him playing in the NFL, whatever team he's on will be one of my favorite teams.
:thumb: :thumb: You get both thumbs up!! One of my favorite quotes on JR was when one of the CBS commentators said: "Russell is just ABUSING this Arkansas defense!!" :thumb:
