I went to every az home game last year, and sat through the blowout last night, here is my opinion: 1. UTEP is absolutely pathetic, to the point Nichols State would be a great game against them. 2. AZ just like last year (north Texas, Utah State, North AZ.) won their non conference home game. 3. The difference this year is that they actually did'nt just squeek by, they looked pretty damn good. They are faster than last year, and actually played much smarter than last year. Mike Bell is a quick runner, and both young QB'S played better. I know this is just UTEP, but understand we barely beat N TEXAS last year and were actually outgained and outplayed. 4. There were 40,000 people there last night and next week they are projecting at least 50k. The crowd is DEAD! The average age is about 69.5, and they actually have to pump in this horrid rock and roll music during the game to make some noise. 5. Tailgated yesterday (only 5 hours before the game according to their rules) and it was lame as compared to Tiger stadium, but will be better next week with the influx of cajuns, and they are talking it up. (I have a 150 man corporate tailgate on gittings lawn, come by.) 6. Bottom line, the game will be better than I thought last week, and somehow Mackovic has the team playing harder than last year. d.B'S are better, but Clayton will get deep on them. Our Oline will wear them down and we will run all over them late. The crowd will not be a factor, and the weather, though hot, will be nice compared to Baton Rouge by the time we kickoff. 7. The AZ kicker kicks the shit out of it, every kickoff was 7 yards deep. (I dont see him kicking to often next week, hopefully)
I think AZ is much better than last years group. They have very young players that have nothing to loose. LSU must control the game and play smart. See you in Tuscon we will try to get by to have some beverages with you. We are in sec 19 row 11 on the west side. Near the LSU section.
