A bit starved for college football news, so I decided to listen to the ESPN U College Football podcast (July 26).

I kinda tuned out Ivan Maisel doing his standard suck job on USC, then heard the "other guy", Brian (I think) say that the first "real" poll (i.e., one that counts), comes out on "Friday".

Did he mean, like, tomorrow? Next Friday? I replayed that part of the clip and couldn't tell for sure, in part because jackhole Maisel picked, uh, Oklahoma as his preseason #2 (wow, just...wow).

Anyway, since in today's MNC world, the coach's poll "means" something...so, we may find out where the Tiger debut as soon as tomorrow? Anyone else have insight on this?

If I am not mistaken, the Coaches poll is usually released the last Friday in July. So that may be correct.

Based on the Coaches Poll release date from the last three years, I’m betting on next Friday:
    Friday, August 04, 2006
    Friday, August 05, 2005
    Friday, July 30, 2004

The list they were referring in the podcast to be released this Friday will be for their top 25 programs of the last decade. Maisel did rank Oklahoma 2nd, but that was the decade success ranking, not his preseason ranking.

Top 25 of the last *decade*...and USC is the "clear" (to Maisel) number 1?

Wow, must have been that stellar 31-29 run USC had from 1997-2001 that really impressed him, eh? USC the best program of the past *10* years? Sure, 5 conference titles and 1 national title is nice, but it doesn't make USC the clear #1 at all, IMO.

I'm no fan of "the U", but, damn, how is Miami not in the top 2 in that sort of poll? They also have 5 conference titles and 1 national title to their credit, yet they're not even in the top 2?

If you're going from '96-'06, Florida is the only team with 2 MNC.

It seems that Oklahoma was Maisel’s pick, but they ended up at No. 5 overall in the list of programs for the last decade. LSU ended up as No. 9. Considering 98 and 99, that’s understandable. - LINK

I would go w/ Florida if the poll was for the last 11 seasons...but, alas, it's not.

I think OU obtaining the longest winning streak in history would put them somewhere in the top 5 during the past decade. I think it was like 47 straight. Not top 2 IMO.
