What have we seen of Brandon Harris that leads anyone to believe he is going to be a good quarterback? We don't need Heisman candidate, we need good. Ball protection, move the chains on 3rd, be enough of a threat that teams just can't load the box and play run every down. As it stands now I've seen nothing that leads me to believe he is capable of being that guy. To be fair, haven't seen it from Jennings either. Jennings is just a safety blanket so our QB isn't lining up behind the guard, calling timeout on 3rd down because he doesn't know where the play is supposed to go, etc etc. I really hope I'm wrong. I agree about Patterson though, give his brother a job fuggit.
Well, we have a stable of good quality backs and supposed to be a great O line, plays right into the hands of Les and his style which is okay. I've seen nothing that will tell me every team we play won't dare us to throw yet again. WR should see lots of single/man coverage because if they don't LF will eat them alive.
We've seen him play very well against one completely overmatched opponent, and also very well against one quality opponent in a mop up situation. We've also seen him implode for one half in his only start, in a situation even the most cynical have agreed was totally unfair to him. Bottom line, we haven't seen nearly enough of Harris under fire to judge him as a college QB, good or bad.
What makes you think he can't be? He was a true freshman last season and he clearly wasn't ready. But freshmen quarterbacks aren't really expected to be ready, most of them redshirt. It takes a while in the system to learn how to read defenses, understand the choices he must make, work hard enough to gain the respect of his teammates, and get badly needed experience. He wasn't ready last year. There is no reason to expect that he won't be ready this season. They say he has the arm and the legs and just needs to grow up and get serious about being a student of the game.
all joking aside, both of these guys will be improved but les has to trust them enough to try not to hide them like hes been doing with qbs for most years. playing not to lose is a recipe for 4th place with the new offensive mindset in the sec. we need points besides fournettes.
When I first heard Harris interviewed even before he enrolled at LSU I thought he was an intelligent young man. Spoke well and was humble even though you could tell he was self assured like you want your QB to be. Well, I know a guy who makes his living tutoring students in math. Tutors lots of LSU students. He told me that several of his students know or have had classes with Harris and they all say he is as dumb as a rock. But maybe there's hope. Terry Bradshaw turned out to be a great QB and he couldn't spell cat.
It's more about being able to make a proper read in a split decision. You can be smart as hell or dumb as shit, neither of them matter if you can't make quick reads and deliver with accuracy.
