I have supported the limited use of warrantless wiretaps in the past, but what you abuse, you lose. If congress decides to remove that right from the executive branch, you will not hear any complaints from me.
This is a problem I've always had with supporting such things. The government is like the 3 year old that you give an inch and he or she will take a mile. This is why I've change my stance on many issues such as smoking bans, etc. I don't like smelling the stuff and on one hand I'm happy and the other scared. This is why I've always argued on this message board about giving the government more power on anything because no one seems to be able to define the line in the sand or have an end in sight to such things. I don't believe the US government is any longer for and by the people. They pretty much do what they want when elected not to mention special interest at work.
Geez, only two of the usual Bush apologists will touch this thread and they are both on the right side of this issue. America is getting smarter already.
First of all I'm not a Bush Apologist. The further this administration remains in power the further I move away. The second term Bush seems nothing like the first term Bush did to me. They seem like 2 totally different people. Second of all, I am against abuse of power by any administration whether its Bush 43 or the previous Clinton administration! Like I've said in other posts. The FBI and CIA break laws more than most people think.
I hope you are not including me as an apologist. I have criticized him when I felt he deserved it. For example, as a war-time president he has not been very good, having made some big boners.
1. this isnt about the patriot act, it about cops abusing the patriot act. cops who dont play by the rules are bad, patriot act or not. 2. the guys were caught and everything is fine, the system worked.
i think the insuation is that they were neocon fbi agents. a progressive agent would never have done such a thing.
Exactly. Guns don't kill people... Still, if there's a way to make Bush look bad, the Dems will jump all over it.
That's the way politics works, didn't you know? The Republicans did the same stuff with Clinton. It works both ways, always has, and everybody knows it.
