ok sticking with the favorite song theme, what's your favorite cover of a song.
(also for some not in the music know, you should list the original artist as well as the artist who covered it.)

    there are many out there.

here are my top ten in no particular order (i'm probably forgetting 30 or so)

metallica- turn the page (bob seger) also whiskey in the jar
    fiona apple-across the universe (beatles)
johnny cash- hurt (nine inch nails)
jimi hendrix-all along the watchtower (bob dylan, i think??)
david bowie- china girl (iggy pop)
    aerosmith-come together (the beatles)
black crowes- hard to handle ( otis redding)
guns n' roses- live and let die (wings)
tesla-signs- (5 man electrical band) [i had to look that one up]
the man who sold the world- nirvana (david bowie) also lake of fire

    • Guns N' Roses -- Knockin' on Heaven's Door (Bob Dylan originally, more popular by Eric Clapton)
    • Eddie Vedder -- You've got to Hide your Love Away (The Beatles)
    • John Lennon -- Stand by Me (Ben E. King)
    • Elton John -- Pinball Wizard (The Who)
    • Jeff Beck -- A Day in the Life (The Beatles)
Bonus: The absolute WORST cover I have ever heard is Elton John's version of "Lucy in the Skies"

I call you one Dolly Parton singing "Stairway to Heaven" and raise you one William Shatner singing "Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds"

OK, that was pretty brutal. I also seem to remember Melissa Etheridge singing a Christmas Song (possibly Happy X-Mas by John Lennon) that was absolutely atrocious.

Does Hendrix doing the Star Spangled Banner count as a cover?
