I just got back from LSU's Fan Day, and I saw some pretty suprising things. If you went to Fan Day, I'm interested if you noticed the same things I did. 1.) Alley Broussard is HUGE. This guy is listed at about 6'0" 230, and he's all that and maybe more. With that 22 on he really looks like Toefield, except he's maybe a little bit bigger. 2.) I'd always assumed Cameron Vaughn would be a starter a LB along with Lionel Turner. Looks like that may not be the case. I don't remember seeing Vaughn take one rep with the starters. The other two LBs were usually Eric Alexander and Adrian Mayes. 3.) JaMarcus Russell is one big guy with a cannon for an arm. He towers over all the other quarterbacks. I saw him standing next to Michael Clayton, and he looks 2" taller than Clayton. He can really rocket that ball out there too. I felt sorry for some of those equipment managers because it looked like it was killing them to catch this guy's passes. Once he learns how to be an SEC QB, look out. 4.) Matt Flynn looked pretty good too, but he looked small. There's no way he's 6'3". He looked a little bit shorter than Mauck and Randall and about 20 lbs lighter than them too. 5.) Amp Hill made a few great looking catches that pleased the crowd, especially that one handed grab going into the sidelines. 6.) Why in the world does Nick Saban even have a DB coach? I'd like to know what you all thought about the workout on Fan Day.
i noticed the same thing about Russel's size. he is ready to go physically...right now. also noticed how well he was throwing those deep passes. Mauck looked good. if i wouldnt have known otherwise...id think he was a drop back passer Randal and Ricard didnt look too good. i thought Flynn was the most accurate of all the QBs from just observing one hour of vanilla practice.....id put Mauck, Russel, and Flynn as the top three
1) Yes, Alley is a large economy sized running back, lol. 2) Same here 3) Russell IS 2" taller than Clayton (6'6" compared to 6'4"). He made some beautiful throws, but he seemed to make more mistakes in picking up his number 2 and 3 receivers than Flynn - this is going to be a GREAT QB race in a couple of years! 4) Flynn is taller than I am, and I'm 6'2". He may be 20 lbs lighter than Russell (who is huge), but he's bigger than Mauck. He's the most accurate QB on the team right now 20 yds and in, imo. He's not as accurate deep as Russell is, though. 5) Hill, Bowe, and Davis all three looked good - as did Brazelle. The only problem those three guys are going to have is getting on the field - Clayton, Henderson, and Green are fair receivers, also, (Green did drop a few yesterday, though). 6) Because he can't be in two places at the same time, lol - I noticed he kept going from one end of the field to the other, but I didn't notice if the DB coach did the same.
The reason I asked why Saban even has a DB coach is he kept following the DBs around. He was moving up and down the field, but it was always either following the 1st team DBs or going from 1st to second team. When he'd yell at a player, it would almost always be a DB or a LB that was doing coverage drills. I know he was a DB in college, but I didn't think he spent THAT much time with them. I guess that'll make you better if you're a DB, but that's got to get aggravating sometimes. I bet they wish he'd spread the ass chewing around every once in a while.
