For what it's worth, I wasn't really impressed with either team. Now, both of them whipped up on cupcakes last week but neither team could get to 20 points last night.

I think you can put a lot of it to opening-day jitters and a lot of new starters. This is the second year in a row that we have opened on the road with a BCS-conference opponent instead of 2 or 3 cupcakes at home to lose those jitters and gain some confidence. Next year will be 3 years in a row opening on the road, probably to a contender this time.

We're going to have to get used to opening road games not being showcases for what the team's potential is.

Well if you think about it, most of the players on Bama's team, especailly those from Alabam ,are probably descendants of the players who played for the Bear. Thus, Saban is winning with Bear's players and therefore Shula couldn't win with Bear's players so if should not have been held against him because in reality Shula was not even playing with Shula's players. Maybe Bama should hire Kevin Bacon to sort this whole mess out.

When our team has a rash of fumbles, it goes back to the coach. Everything goes back to the coach, that's always the bottom line. But Miles' teams have done pretty good in the past regarding fumbles, you're right. I still stand by the statement that we've had sloppy play and it just happens that game 1 this year included an unacceptable amount of fumbles, which I believe should be lumped into sloppy play.
I'm not skeerd of the truth.
If I don't voice them, know that I recognize Saban has many faults. Most of them just aren't relevant to the point I was making.
I'd say TF is a niche demographic. What would the results of your poll be at another site?
They are open damn it. I don't see a significant difference between what I'm seeing and what I've seen. How I draw my conclusions *IS* my call, isn't it?
I know that Lee had his chance against La Tech. I think Lee could contribute not because he's struggled in the past but because there have been flashes of potential from him in the past (who is the negatiger now?) AND because JJ has done little to impress me and make me believe he's the answer. Also, I believe JJ would benefit from seeing the game from the sideline periodically.
JJ didn't show the ability to consistently get the ball to our playmakers against a depleted defense. I expect we'll see better defenses during the season. What did Shephard do in the second half?
Yes sir. Thanks. We'll see how my prognostication plays out.
And no, when we hired Miles, I was open. I got down on Miles fairly quick however, and was pretty grumpy till he won the NC. I took a step back and said, "Hey, maybe I was wrong." Since then all that grumpyness has creeped back.
How deep are our lines? How enviable is our QB position? I'm also concerned about player development. But I will give Miles credit that our recruiting rankings are generally high and well regarded and that we do seem to do pretty well getting guys who will qualify and not act up too much off the field.

Hmmm... you know, I have been impressed by LSU before, it's just been a while. I was impressed by UNC's offensive performance against LSU. And anyway, would you say UNC was to LSU as Minnessota was to New Orleans? I'd say a depleted UNC team is much less of a challenge, relatively speaking.
I recognize that Miles has some strengths, and I won't begrudge you those. I welcome a well reasoned defense of Miles, just don't think I'll simply agree when I don't think your arguments are sound. I wish you'd reciprocate. It gets me that many of the Miles-guard will shout down criticism - it shows insecurity.

Frankly, I've been surprised by your dogmatic defense of Miles, though you have argued in the past for lowered expectations. You may not know my lows when LSU struggles, but that must mean you don't know my highs at LSU's success.
Bad calls happen. Stop making excuses.
Didn't we plaster VaTech to open the year Miles won his NC? I'm not buying the first game jitters argument. This game had Miles' stamp all over it.

Huh, strange that I complimented the Saints play in the original post. Must have missed that, or jumped to conclusions about what I said...
    I'm just sayin...

I must admit I don't have unfettered or special access to opposing teams' locker rooms. The college football community as a whole is comprised of anyone who gives a damn about college football. I'd say in any group there are those with valid opinions, and the larger the group, the larger the group with opinions worth listening to. I have opinions about opposing teams' coaches, we all do, and I can honestly say were Miles an opposing teams' coach, I'd be less worried about the threat his team posed to mine. I felt that way about Coker, Fulmer, Orgeron, and I have a similar feeling about Miles. What does my opinion matter? Well, damn, maybe it doesn't, but when the number that echoes a sentiment are large enough, the smoke more likely means fire.

I've gotta admit, I was tired of talking about the UNC game early Monday morning. I feel like the argument has been made and that there is a strong correlation between last season and this season so far. But eventually I lifted the boycott and felt my opinion was unique enough to start up my own little rant. Sorry, but not too sorry. There are plenty of sunshine threads and they aren't confined to one thread, ya don't hear me bitchin' (at least about sunshine threads, I am bitchin' about Miles).

One of the best points from a sunshine pumper yet. I give you high grades for this one.

I wish this strawman would be put to the tourch. I've never argued W/L column.

    Funny. :)
Not all of my discontent with Miles is related to Napoleon. I'd not have much respect for Miles as a coach were he coaching at an opposing team if his teams performed as poorly as LSU has during much of his tenure.

Same schtick, different year. I don't see significant improvement at all, I think I've seen this all before.

Don't know enough about the Bear to comment. I will say about Saban that I was willing to accept his flaws. He proved on more than one occassion to be able to field an impressive squad. Had Saban lost the ability to continue that, eventually his time would come. See Bobby Bowden. I think Bowden stayed on too long and hurt FSU by doing so. It's a job he was well compensated for, when your usefulness is done be conscientious enough to do what's best for your school.

I'd probably look at Gruden and a number of other coaches, including Patterson, Petersen, and Mullen.

    Heh, burn....
But remember, TF is a niche market. It's like a dirty hippy storming a republican convention. Anyway, I appreciate the discussion / debate.

Please fire him this year and hire Gruden![/QUOTE]
LMAO! If Gruden ever read this thread (or any other coach for that matter) he'd have to ask himself why he would ever want to work at a place filled with a bunch of jerks like that! Les isn't perfect by any means, but he is our coach and he isn't leaving anytime soon. If you want LSU to do well this season, just be a true fan and support the team and its coaches as well. The players deserve that. So do the coaches. Show a little respect. You will have plenty of time in the off-season to bitch if this season doesn't turn out the way YOU hoped it would.:geauxtige

Miles has earned criticism and we aren't worse than any other fanbase in regards to undue criticism.
