Even though the NYTimes poll had not been updated, it is obvious from the final BCS score of 6.15 for USC that they had to have finished 1st in that poll. I now formally rebuke the NYTimes poll. It needs to be deleted from the list.

So here we have it, one poll remaining.....the Billingsley poll.

If USC finishes 2nd in this poll then USC ends up with
    1.0 (human) + 2.50 (computer) + 1 (loss) + 1.48 (SOS) = 5.98

    LSU finished with:
    2.0 (human) + 1.83 (computer) + 1 (loss) + 1.16 (SOS) = 5.99

Here is the final difference between LSU and USC in the deciding Billingsley poll:

    LSU 300.683
    USC 300.567

If that ain't close I do not know what is.

Dear lord...that is incredible. To think, a touchdown or two less against Arkansas or Georgia, and we may not have gone to the Sugar...

That would not have mattered actually. Computer polls don't look at the margin of victory. Only the human polls could have been swayed by that kind of thing.

I mean...I thought that each computer poll was a bit different and counted different things...hence the need for seven of them...

No they look at different things like your record against top 10, and top 25 teams......but the computer polls CANNOT use margin of victory in it's formula. They removed this a couple of years back...in fact 2 computer polls had to be removed because they refused to remove margin of victory from their formula.

Some of the computer polls used to include margin of victory but they were forced to take it out after 2000.

So basically, if Louisiana Tech had lost to Michigan State, then we're in the Rose Bowl.
