Something that rarely goes mentioned when the debate rages over Les Miles's performance as coach over the past couple of years is his general ability to keep the program free from controversy. I've been reading the papers about all the garbage being slung around in Fayetteville, with different Hogs players and parents of players having private meetings with the Arkansas athletic director about the direction of the Razorback offense. Just before a big bowl game versus #6 Wisconsin, Hog players are publicly voicing their discontent with Houston Nutt and their intentions to transfer as soon as the season ends. Remember, Nutt was the guy Saban told Skip he should hire when Saban left for the Dolphins. And in a year where his team won ten straight games and won the SEC West, and his running back finished second in the Heisman race, Nutt has lost control of his team. Les Miles, facing the highest of expectations, the worst of natural disasters, and the ugliest and most unreasonable of criticism from fans, has kept this team cohesive and performing at a high level. No soap operas in Tiger Land. And that's a huge plus. I don't agree with everything he does. But he's kept the Tigers among the nation's elite. And with a couple breaks this year, the Tigers might be playing for the national championship. LSU is going to slaughter Notre Dame. And that will be a fitting end to two fine years for a fine coach at LSU.:geauxtige
I couldn't agree with you more. And as far as Arky goes, this is the reason they will lose their game against Wisconsin, a game they should probably win. I don't think the players want to win as it would be a good reflection on Nutt.( that just doesn't sound right!)
A very well made post, that has not often been discussed on the forum. Thanks for reminding us. It's all true. We need to start appreciating Les more! After two years, I think we know what we have. A very good head coach who has assembled a solid staff. He needs to beat ND for consecutive 11 win seasons!
I couldn't agree more. For all the criticism that Miles has faced from our fans--and all those that openly wish Skip would have chosen someone else--Miles has continued to deliver. BOth on the field with back-to-back double-digit win season as well as bringing in nationally ranked recruiting classes. No, Miles may not have been every Tiger fan's choice when he was originally hired, but mark my words, when Les Miles tenure is up at LSU (be it because he leaves for another job or by simply retiring) we'll look back on his time in Tiger town and say, "Damn! We had a good one after all!"
Miles doesn't run his ship as tight as Saban did, but few coaches do. College kids are going to make mistakes and get in trouble, LSU's players are no exception - although it has been pretty quiet the past 2 years with Miles. Miles has control of this program. Players are happy, off or on field incidents are rare, we're winning, and we're recruiting very well. The program is in its best shape ever.
The last time you made comments like this, I challenged you to give details. You failed miserably. Once again, are you just speaking your opinion or do you actually have some factual information to back that claim this time around?
