Finebaum said that LSU was the most impressive win over the weekend. ... and the rest of the "experts" were saying that LSU could very well take the BCSCG this year.

Lot of talk about the offense, Mettenberger and Cameron.

    Good Stuff!!

I had this conversation with tirk before the game. ALL the experts to include many a vegas insider had LSU on upset alert.

I can see how they would think so, going on numbers alone it does set up that way but being in the know I knew it was just a bad call on their part.

I'm not there yet. I say it is possible but I'm not near comfortable enough in what I saw to say they could go to the BCSCG.
Metts still has the tendency to hang on to the ball too long, inconsistent on deep ball, still needs some pocket awareness and needs to dump it to RBs when the primary isn't there.
OC- I'm looking forward to a bit more creativity occassionally. I didn't expect to see much on that front in this game but hopefully creativity is in order for SEC matches
CLM- clock issues could cost us once again. Delay of game coming out of time out......End of game you are running out the clock and get a 1st down and then have to call a time-out to decide on a running play.
DL- I didn't see a lot there. We will need these guys to step up against Bama and A&M

But I will say, I was happy with a lot of what I saw. Just not quite ready to say we are SECCG bound yet. I just hope that in the close games, the late game play calling and clock management will not bite us. If the TCU game is evidence of how it will be this year, I have a feeling it could cost us. I wasn't expecting that at all. I was expecting CLM to let CC have control and manage the offense late in the half and late in the game. Maybe he did and this was all on CC...IDK. I wasn't happy with the way some of that went down.

That was last year's complaint. Most agree that Mettenberger addressed these concerns last Saturday.

the delay a game was a screw up by the refs. Did you watch the game?
Allen was a monster, he needs to learn how to keep containment though
Ego and Freak in the backfield all night.
Hunter will be a beast by the middle of the season
We havent seen all the talent on the D line
if any concern, our linebackers excluding Barrow sucked ass.

More important is where we are relative to the other highly touted teams of the conference. Bama's offense and O-line made it look like Stud took over HC duties for the night. UGA's and A&M's defenses got carved up like turkeys. USCe may be the real deal, but too early to tell. As far as it's possible to tell from only a week out, LSU could very well project as a championship team in the coming weeks and months.

I think it's way too early in the season to be saying the Tigers are SECCG bound just yet. This team showed some of its youth in this game. As they mature, gain confidence, and situational awareness, could be a truly dangerous team. Especially on defense.

Showing the love for FSU as well. I'm impressed with Jimbo's Seminoles. He can set up an offense. And yeah, Jameis Winston is good. I kinda hope he is at least as good in baseball.

Unlike with most LSU games, I watched this one with a buddy of mine from high school, and I couldn't hear most of the commentary from TV. When that call came, it was very difficult for me to follow what was going on. I've since heard that there were 3 seconds on the play clock when the TO was called and the play clock wasn't reset coming back onto the field. If that's accurate -- and I have no reason to believe it isn't based on the officials' performance especially in the 1st half -- then there's no way I can lay that at the feet of the coaching staff.

I'm not quite ready to buy tickets to Pasadena (or even Atlanta) yet, but I was quite pleased with most phases of the game Saturday. The glaring deficiencies -- KO return for TD, fumble in opponent's red zone -- don't seem to be a growing problem given that: 1) both kick and punt coverage appeared fairly solid, with that one exception and; 2) that was the first fumble lost by a Tiger running back in 331 (?) touches. The D gave up just over 200 yards and the O gained closer to 500 than to 200 against what was touted as an historically stout D.

I would have liked to see more passes to RBs and TEs -- as would have many here -- but it was just the first game and maybe CCC didn't get the match-ups he was looking for to make that happen. Overall cautiously optimistic and the Battle Between the Hedges looms even larger now.

    Lots of sanity here.

We show the absolute potential of a championship team, but it's a very young season, and the youth is unpredictable. I think we can win the West. Wherever that takes us is good enough for me.

As for the game between the hedges...I think USCe will thump Georgia this weekend, and they'll be an afterthought by the time we get to them. They'll be 1-3 at the end of September, and nobody will even remember they were in contention.
