That does seem pretty low. It's likely based on shaky QB play. If this team loses any games this year, it will be because of INTs. Hopefully Russell will be a little smarter this year. I'll still never forget him throwing two awful interceptions inside the LSU 15 yard line at Florida last year. We needed a superman game by Randall to pull that one out.

And for the record, I hate the two QB system. I hope Les Miles does too.

Nobody in the media is sold on Les Miles - that's all it comes down to. They know we have the talent, but nobody is sure whether Les can utilize it or not. They don't want to predict LSU to high & then have Miles turn out to be a flop, so they underrate us.

Also, there haven't been many articles written about our Spring Game - because we didn't have one. We had an untelevised scrimmage, that's not exactly giving the media something to hype up.

How anybody can rank us below where we finished last year even though we return almost everybody is beyond me.

I can't wait for Florida to fail on these insane, ridiculous expectations.

I don't care what kind of offense they have....their D is average at best

that's what everyone said when auburn lost dansby and thomas to the nfl draft. bottom line is you don't know if they will be or not.

Who said Auburn's D was going to be bad last year? They lost some good players but returned quite a few.

Quite unlike UF who was near terrible at their front 4 and lose their best secondary player.

    Two different scenarios

more than those saying UF's will be bad this year. almost if not everyone outside of Auburn. lots of new faces there while losing team leaders on defense last year yet went on to go undefeated with the best defense in the sec.

    Just to clarify...

We lost 4 starters that year. And all four of them were starting for their NFL teams by week 8.

Reggie Torbor (Giants), Demarco McNeil (Vikings), Karlos Dansby (Cardinals), Dontarrius Thomas (Vikings).

So we lost our two best D-lineman, and our two best linebackers.

After we lost all four of those guys to graduation...most people predicted our defense would be fairly average. We were very very fast, but very young and small. We were predicted to be great against the pass, but an awful rushing defense because we were so small. Well we allowed our first rushing touchdown in our 8th game.

Turned out ok for us. Even I thought our defense would be our weak link last year and they turned out to be one of the best in the country. So Tirk is right that you never really know.

    Couldn't disagree more.

Where? I remember reading that Auburn lost Thomas and some others but they also returned quite a good amount on the front and Williams at LB.

I found these quotes on NationalChamps.net's 2004 Preview

With Florida, they finished 6th or worse in almost every catagory in the SEC from the defensive side of the ball...8th in pass defense and 6th in rush defense....

Auburn finished 3rd in scoring defense in 2003...5th in pass defense and 2ND in rush defense....

Florida doesn't return anyone that great whatsoever on defense while Auburn does....Florida loses their best players from an already bad defense.
