Oregon's sanctions released by NCAA Infractions Committee:

The NCAA has placed Oregon's football program on probation for three years and taken away a scholarship over that same span, through June 2016, for recruiting violations under previous coach Chip Kelly.

The NCAA's Division I Infractions Committee released a report on Wednesday that found Kelly and the university failed to monitor the program....

....The NCAA also reduced Oregon's official paid visits from 56 to 37 for the next three academic years, reduced its evaluation days for each of the next three seasons and banned the program from using recruiting services during the probation period....

I saw the ESPN ticker showing that the penalties were assessed to Chip Kelly vs coming down on the University.

I did not understand what that could possibly mean. Chip Kelly is the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Are they losing draft choices now?

Whether Chip Kelly is currently head coach of the Oregon Ducks is totally irrelevant I would think.

If Chip wants to coach in college during the next two years, he would need to stand before a NCAA committee who would determine if bylaws applied. I suppose that means, a NCAA fine could follow Kelly for a couple of years.

There are some sanctions against the University, basically,.. 2+ scholarship losses and recruiting visit restrictions, spread over three years.

Finally, after two years,.. the NCAA investigation of Oregon is over, with good results,.. the penalties are less than those the Ducks have self-imposed.

    I'm ready for football

This is definitely one of the rules that needs to be re-defined. If a coach is given a show-cause, that should follow him. IE: If Kelly decides to return to college football in three or four years, the show-cause should follow.

There's been dark clouds hanging around Oregon football the last two seasons. Chip was probably going to leave for the NFL, and the scary unpredictable NCAA was holding a sword over our head. Those issues are resolved, now there is the matter of exorcising the ghost of Chip Kelly and breaking in a new head coach.

After Chip left, Mark Helfrich was promoted from OC to Head Coach. A native Oregonian he was raised in Medford and was QB at Southern Oregon University, he has prior coaching experience at Cal and Boise St.

This is a big step up for Helfrich, and I don't know what to expect, Chip always called the plays on offense, while Helfrich's roll as OC seemed fuzzy and undefined. Kelly was a very aggressive playcaller, it will be interesting to see how often Helfrich goes for it on 4th down. Mark Helfrich is a great QB coach though, he was selected National QB Coach of the year, 2 of the last 3 years, for his work with Darren Thomas and Marcus Mariota.

Oregon Receiver coach Scott Frost was promoted to OC, he's a fine coach, a young up and comer.

We have a new Passing game coordinator/Receivers coach, Matt Lubick, he's our recruiting director as well.

Chip took our DL coach with him to Philadelphia but all the other assistant coaches stayed.

DC Nick Aliotti turned down the USC job and will begin his 22 year at Oregon.

Here's a link for info on the other coaches, amazing how long the Oregon Assistants have remained Ducks.

It's going to be very interesting watching this season unfold. The Ducks are very unbelievably overloaded on offense, while the defense got hit pretty hard by graduation.

Should be great stuff, watching a new Coach and seeing Oregon beat UW for the 10th year in a row.

    Go Ducks

I still don't see the point in penalizing people who had nothing to do with the scandal. The coaches and administrators responsible should be the ones to carry the penalty. I'm surprised that kind of backward "justice" is still tolerated.

Putting it another way...it's like if your brother kills somebody, then flees the murder scene and disappears into Mexico, and YOUR PARENTS have to serve the jailtime.

yeah, it's crazy stupid,.. the coaches and players who caused the trouble are off Scott free and living happy, while the penalties really only hurt the innocent,.. idiotic, but I don't know what they can do to fix it.

If Kelly had stayed, what would a couple of scholarships have mattered? The fans would have been more then relieved and thrilled just having Kelly lead the team. No doubt about it, Oregon dodged the proverbial bullet with the NCAA. That bunch has been shooting blanks for a while now. Next stop, Miami.
