Eight SEC Schools Among Street and Smith's 50 Greatest College Football Programs Eight Southeastern Conference schools have been listed among the top 50 college football programs of all time by Street & Smith's Specialty Publications. Street & Smith's "50 Greatest College Football Programs of All Time," a 128-page keepsake, became available on newsstands nationwide on Tuesday, October 4. Alabama (3) led SEC teams with Tennessee (13), LSU (17), Georgia (18) finishing in the top 20. Auburn (21), Florida (25), Ole Miss (26) and Arkansas (32) rounded out the top 50.
The list was published last September... just now hitting the newsstands... the SEC, ACC and Big Ten all had 8 teams in the top 50 and the Pac-10 had 6.
I'm shocked that Michigan isn't in the top 5. Top 10 1-Notre Dame 2-USC 3-OU 4-Bama 5-Nebraska 6-Michigan 7-Yale 8-Ohio State 9-Texas 10-Princeton
This list is a joke. They said they looked at what happened at the beginning of the school's history and so on. I bet less than .0001% could name a Yale or Princeton player after 1920 or even at all.
Street & Smith's graded each program's football history - reaching back to the game's origins in the 1860s - on a combination of national championships, undefeated seasons, major bowl wins and appearances, conference championships, all-time winning percentage, graduation rate, All-Americans, Heisman Trophy winners, No. 1 draft picks, NCAA infractions, and even mascot ferocity. Based on the criterion above, Yale has this going for it: 19 NC's (before 1909) winning percentage 72% 12 undefeated seasons 2 Heisman winners most likely a high graduation rate Princeton has: 24 NC's (before 1935) winning percentage 68% 10 undefeated seasons 1 Heisman winner I'm guessing a high graduation rate as well Neither has any major bowl appearances.
