I searched and can't believe there's never been a thread on this. I just wanted to say I can't stand it. Haven't drunk it in years.

Commercial eggnog is just sugared cream to me.

But a good homemade eggnog, less sweet and with dark rum added, is a nice holiday party drink. Change of pace, I wouldn't want to drink it more than once a year.

There are those that say raw eggs are unsafe. I say live a little.

you have a better chance of drowning than getting salmonella.

you have a better chance of winning the lottery than dying from salmonella.

    channel your inner rocky.

i dont do eggnog however. maybe if not so sweet like red said.

eggnog is almost like fruitcake. the majority dont really like it. but if you lived up north it would give you another reason to get liquored up and stay warm.

It's been so long since I've tasted it that I don't even remember what exactly it was I didn't like. I get nauseous if I get close to it.

Kinda weird but that and liquorice do that. I ate too much liquorice once and can't smell it either. Course, knowing now that liquorice can contain up to 2% ammonium chloride, I can understand why I may have gotten sick.

I just had some!!!! I brought a pint of Bordens (Kleinpeters is better but they don't have little ones) over to one of my favorite bars (kingpin-new orleans) and the bartender made me one with Bourbon. It was great. Bourbon milk shake!

I love the real home made egg nog, but like Red said, it's only a once a year type drink. Made right though, it's very good. I can not stand the store bought crap though.

I can say I have never had real eggnog. I have sipped non-alcoholic eggnog, and didn't care for it.

I'm sure i'd enjoy a well made, rum infused eggnog. Now, where to find it, is another story.

Christmas morning tradition in my house( my family version).
    1-half gallon of boiled custard
    1-5th makers mark
    1/2-5th dark rum your choice
3- heaping tabelspoons of dark brown sugar
1- tabelspoon of pure vanilla extract
    heavy dash of cinnamon,nutmeg,and allspice
searve hot but careful not to scorch

Sure makes Christmas with all my inlaws alot more fun:thumb:
