Well, it was a fantastic early teal season over here on the coastal prairie of Texas. Opening day we limited 6 hunters, shot 17 birds among 5 hunters on our 2nd hunt, limited 7 hunters last Saturday, and then shot 16 Sunday among 6 hunters. The pup made some great retrieves in all the uncut rice, and I was proud. There will be plenty of bacon wrapped teal on the grill for the next big game. I was going to post some pictures, but I'm having trouble uploading them on here.

Nice looking pup and thanks for sharing the pics.

No green wings? Those blues have a lot of pin feathers?

Thx for sharing the pictures, like Tiga said great looking pups. I haven't been duck or any bird hunting since I lived in Iowa during my high school years. Did do a lot of pheasant and Canadian goose hunts while there, used to have a laniard filled with bands from the DNR, was great when you got a banded bird and could call and see where the it was originally banded. Unfortunately I never bagged one of those huge mid-western monster bucks they boast, I can't shoot a bow to save my life and they do not allow rifle hunting for deer there.

Thanks, thats my 2.5 yr old Chessie. She is coming along fairly well, but still needs some work in a few areas. She marks exceptionally well, charges hard, has pinned diving birds, and is extremely good at finding birds that go down in thick brush. Only problem so far is she does not like to bring the birds all the way to hand. She generally stops about 10 feet in front of me and drops it. Buuuuut, thats a Chesapeake for you. haha

No, we only shot 1 greenwing out of about 120 birds in early teal season. I think they are a little more tolerant of the cold. We generally don't see too many during early teal season in Sept.

Pin feathers? I'm not familiar with that term.

I have heard that pheasant is a lot of fun, and very good table fair.

Out of all the ducks I have ever shot I have yet to get a band. One guy on our lease shot a banded greenwing teal. When he called it in he found out the bird was banded in Labrador! That bird was 2 flyways over from where he was originally banded. Pretty interesting that it made it that far out of its flyway. Ducks are amazing animals.

I got a banded teal from Laurel, Mo. Haven't been to teal season in years. Have had some pretty miserable hunts during teal season, nothing like 90 degree weather with gnats and mosquitoes, oh and no teal...
