Why does this dude hate freedom so much? You would think a veteran would understand that someone has the right to fly pieces of cloth in whatever order they want.

Only if that guy flying the flags is an American citizen. If he's illegal, all bets are off.

Almost all of the rights protected by our Constitution are extended to anyone under the jurisdiction of the United States. Illegals would certainly qualify.

Which is the reason why you can't swing a dead cat by the tail without hitting an illegal.

It is illeal to fly another country's flag over an American flag. A tv crew went to a Reno bar to film this. A veteran walks up, gets both flags down from the flag pole. He then pulls out about an 8 inch blade and cuts the American flag down and keeps it throws the Mexican flag onto the ground. All of this is captured on camera. He then turns to the camera and states his name and announces that he is a veteran. Says nobody going to fly flags like that in front of him and that if the owner of the flag wants the US flag back,he will have to fight him for it. He then walks away carrying the US flag. My kind of guy. I never pass up the opportunity to thank people in the military for serving our country.

Here are my problems with this whole issue.

    1. The government should not impose laws on us to define what patriotism is. In a free society we should be able to fly pieces of cloth in whatever manner we choose. Communists pass laws to make sure certain cloths are above others. Democracies allow speech and expression.
    2. The veteran here is the real criminal. He does damage to someone else's property, then he steals. Those are real crimes.
    3. The dude is also a giant hypocrite. As he is demanding respect for the flag he loves he desecrates another countries flag by throwing it on the ground. I don't think there is anything wrong with throwing the Mexican flag on the ground, but in these circumstances the veteran looks a tad hypocritical.

It would have been awesome had he simply taken the flags down then strung them up in the proper order. That way he gets his point across and doesn't come across as looking like some elitist. This is how things should work in America. When someone's speech offends us we respond in like manner with our speech. We don't vandalize property and steal and threaten violence.

The flag is a symbolic piece of cloth. If we start stripping away at our actual freedoms to uphold a symbol then we do true damage to our way of life and diminish what the flag stands for.

We have a flag code, but no criminal penalties for violating it.
