Just read this story on the New York times website http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/07/sports/ncaafootball/07WHAT.html Look at what the LSU, Georgia score was And Now, It's Number-Crunching Time By THE NEW YORK TIMES Published: December 7, 2003 TLANTA, Dec. 6 — Proponents of an N.F.L.-style playoff in college football should have all the fuel they need for their debate with the Bowl Championship Series on Sunday when the pairings for the national championship in the Sugar Bowl are announced. Oklahoma (12-1) was expected to be a lock for the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4 but lost, 35-7, to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship game on Saturday night. Louisiana State and Southern California will have their fate decided by computer rankings and polls late Sunday afternoon. Advertisement U.S.C. was second in the B.C.S. standing and L.S.U. was third when play began Saturday. Syracuse defeated Notre Dame, which had lost to Southern California and, according to ESPN.com, U.S.C. lost strength of schedule points in the B.C.S. system with the Irish loss. Southern Cal finished its regular season 12-1 after defeating Oregon State, 52-28, on Saturday. Southern Cal could be hurt further if Hawaii, one of its opponents in the regular season, lost to Boise State in a late game Saturday night. L.S.U. (12-1) defeated Georgia in the Southeastern Conference championship game, 52-28, on Saturday and passed the Trojans on strength-of-schedule points. But with Oklahoma's loss to Kansas State, Southern Cal is likely to move from No. 2 to No. 1 in the polls while Oklahoma could possibly slip to No. 2. L.S.U. could be stuck at No. 3 and left out of the title game 90 minutes south of its campus in New Orleans.
Fuck the NY Times......it's irrelevant...the Wolfe poll just came out and we are #2 ahead of USC. It's all over now, LSU will finish with a 1.83 computer poll average, and the best USC can do is 2.67, with this supposed #1 NY Tmes ranking. USC will not finish first in NYTimes anyway.
This part of the article deals with the human polls, not the NY Times poll. They are saying if OU gets voted down to #2 in the AP or Coaches poll, then LSU will be screwed. USC will finish 3rd in the NYTimes. LSU will be 1st or 2nd.
Well, they were wrong. Both polls are now out and we are at #2, which is pretty much what we expected. As for as getting the nod over USC in the NYTimes, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen. Hopefully, that won't matter, though.
