Every NFL club that has troubles, the first thing they want to do is get Nick Saban. I'll take it is a compliment, but I'll also take it that an offer to great to refuse is forthcoming.
Get Used to it. Every single NFL team that becomes unhappy with the W/L record of the coach is going to want to talk to Coach Nick Saban. Why the heck don't they talk to Mark Richt or Bob Stoops?? They could make good NFL coaches, too.
I'm not surprised, a part of me still roots for the Dolphins since I spent some years of my life in Florida. I like Dave Wandstat and hope he does well but he didn't make it in Chicago and I'm not sure if he can make it in Miami either as a head coach in the NFL. I think we all know why they don't want Spurrier but I find it interesting that they don't want to talk to Mark Richt or Bob, My Defense is better than yours, Stoops.
The Reason They Want Nick They have seen first-hand the success of Bill Belechek (?sp?), and they see Saban as Bill, Jr. they know the systems are very similar, and they want what works. As to why no one is knocking down the doors of Stoops, Carroll, Richt, Brown, or anyone else, I don't know. I do know this, though. Nick Saban is smart enough to know that $2.5 million+/year for as long as he wants is a LOT MORE MONEY than $5 million/year for two or three years (which is about as long as most owners/GM's will wait for a new coach to win a SB).
He is right. I wouldnt envy the instability of players and coaches positions in the NFL. I dont know if it is enough to keep Saban away. In fact, I doubt it is, but it may be enough to keep him around a little longer, waiting for the right situation.
