Looks like it is just about time for Ole Miss to collapse once again this year. It seems like an annual rite of passage – Ole Miss starts off strong (be it in football, basketball or baseball), fans begin to think about the possibility of a New Year’s bowl game or postseason play, yet, like the Chicago Cubs, the team is destined to disappoint. This year Eli and the boys stand at 6-2 and 4-0 in the SEC, with dates remaining against South Carolina, at Auburn, LSU and the annual Egg Bowl at Mississippi State (and Jackie’s last game). They’re riding a four game winning streak (vs. UF, Ark. St., Bama and Ark.) since losing to Texas Tech. They are ranked 20th in the AP Poll (26th in the Coaches’) and looking to play a major role in the outcome of the SEC West.

Yet, this is Ole Miss we’re talking about. The collapse WILL happen. Saturday is November 1, which means we’re down to the last month of the regular season. Does the collapse start this week?

At the beginning of the season, if someone would have told me that only one SEC team would be going into November with an undefeated conference record, and that the same team would also be leading the SEC in offense......

I would have picked the team from these:

    LSU
    Georgia
    Auburn

And if none of those had worked, I would have tried one of these:

    Arkansas
    Florida

    And then:

    Alabama
    Tennessee

But low and behold, it is Mississippi.

Based on the fact that Ole Miss has already beat Alabama, Florida and Arkansas, I think that Ole Miss can realistically beat both South Carolina and Miss State as well.

The truth is, Ole Miss should be taken seriously..!!

Chip, I’m not denying that Ole Miss should be taken seriously. I’m just pointing out the pattern of collapse in the last few years and the possibility (probability?) of another occurring this year. Let’s look at the last 5 years of Ole Miss football:

    2002: Started 5-1, Finished 7-6
    2001: Started 6-1, Finished 7-4
    2000: Started 6-2, Finished 7-5
    1999: Started 7-2, Finished 8-4
    1998: Started 6-2, Finished 7-5

Seems like a pattern to me.

I dont know about collapse, but they will lose 2 SEC games. I think they will probably beat USC this week, but lose to both LSU and Auburn.

I just don't think that Ole Miss will completely fall apart this year.
The Ole Miss offense seems to be scoring very consistently.
    They may even beat Auburn...

With a 9-3 record, they could easily get into a decent Bowl Game for Eli's last hurrah!

While I don't think that they will be able to beat LSU, I doubt that it will be a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination.

I'd like to see them undefeated going into the LSU game. The Tiger's SOS would get a boost from that, especially now that Arkansas has gone into the toilet. It could happen, too, because they'll beat USC, and I think Eli can do some damage against Auburn's secondary. Question there is, will he have time to do it?

This Ole Miss team seems to be getting better instead of what they usually do. The game with them is going to be a lot tougher than anyone is expecting.

I think our game with them is nothing to laugh at, but I feel like we will win.

WE are playing the best football in the SEC since we fell to Florida.

Auburn is not a given game for Ole Miss. I wouldn't expect Auburn to lay down and die after last week.
