1) last minute TD drive to tie the game vs. OSU 2) 2 minute TD drive to make it a much closer game vs. GA before the half 3) 2 minute TD drive to make it a much closer game vs. FL before the half 4) 2 minute game winning TD drive vs. FL Maybe we should play some no huddle offense in the middle of the game from now on. And let us not forget, LSU was one dropped pass/bad pass away from kicking the game winning FG vs. Auburn on a last minute drive as well.
I've posted this before and advocated it even in 2002. Line Marcus Randall up in the spread for the entire game and let him play. He does best playing in that set.
Yeah that arkansas game in Little Rock in 2002 i remember we lined up in the spread pretty much the whole game and it was fun to watch randall run those read plays and then scramble and use his legs.
After 2 years I thought that I finally blocked that game from my memory and then you had to bring it up again...
Saban mentioned this and thought Randall's success was due to knowing what coverage defense the was going to be in. In no huddle, it's really tough to change defensive calls so Randall was able to get in a groove and know where the defenders were going to be.
The quarterback gets almost the whole 24 seconds to observe the defense in a no-huddle offense. You need a veteran offense to pull it of consistently, one that knows the whole playbook and all of the read options. You need a quarterback who can read defenses and receivers who can perceive the hole in the coverage and go to it. But when you have that, the no-huddle can be used anywhere in the game, not just in two-minute situations. The no-huddle is not necessarily a "hurry-up" offense.
