Does LSU have a shot at being preseason #1?

That's an asinine, childish response to an otherwise healthy debate. You either failed to comprehend what I wrote, or you simply want to be contrary.

Yes, I know what he meant, but it's obvious you don't get what I'm getting at. In this thread I've asked how could AU catch OU in the AP if preseason polls are all that matter. I've also pointed out that TX passed Cal without Cal losing in 2004. After this, you tell me I'm missing the point that voters "can't drop em down if they haven't loss yet" because you heard some voters say this. Don't you see a mental disconnect here? BTW, you're not alone in this regard as there hasn't been a single response to these points.

I've also pointed out that AU was ranked 3rd by the first week of the BCS ranking and asked why this was so unreasonable and why not having a preseason poll would make it obvious it was unreasonable. Another way of thinking about this one is to answer the question is there any evidence that a delayed poll would really be different from the current set-up. Thus my comment that they do rankings each week considering the results of real games. The current response of because they will only consider this years games and will ignore or forget everything else that they know is complete nonsense, so I'm fishing for more.

Okay, I'll rephrase it. How do you increase the objectivity of something that can only be subjective? And why wouldn't a poll in the current set-up taken after real games not benefit from the same imaginary objectivity?

I don't belong on this forum if I didn't know that much. You missed my point completely.

There are some things that can't be controlled, that is one of them.

In this current debate of whether we should have preseason polls or not, noone is implying that preseason polls are all that matters. You seem to be mixing subject matters here.

Also, don't get me wrong about preseason polls. I enjoy them as much as the next college football fan. It gives us something to talk about before the season starts, I just think the accuracy is a bit off as opposed to releasing the first poll 2 or 3 weeks into the season.

And thus there's no point in waiting 3 weeks or whatever to put out polls.

    I'll bite on this part...

Say a team A starts the season ranked 30th. When in reality it turns out that A team is a top 5 team. A win each week will only jump team A up so far, but because they started the season so far down, they might not ever make it to a top 5 rank.

Second case: The first poll is released 2 games into the season and because the voters get to see team A play a couple of games, they rank team A closer to where they belong, thus eliminating having to climb so far up the polls.

    I guess.
