Does anyone know exactly WHY Skip decided to bargain shop for a Head Coach?

Why was he not willing to spend 2 million plus on a head coach? We were already doing it with Saban and I think it would be pretty clear that football coach is your most important investment as Athletic Director.

Because any replacement coach not to make it to a BCS game right off the back would have been flammed for making 2 million dollars and not getting us to a BCS game.

Just curious, who out there would you have said, "I'll give you 2 million dollars per year"?

    Rich Rodriguez.

The point is, how can you expect top 5 results if you aren't offering top 5 money?

Very few coaches in the country can or should command $2 million a year. LSU had no chance to lure a coach from a program like that from their program (Bobby Petrino). Availiable guys who could command that type of money (Butch Davis) weren't interested in returning to coaching at the time. I'm sure Rich Rodriguez likes it just fine at WVU despite the rumors of him wanting an ACC or SEC job.

    This is rediculous!

First of all I think people are being unfair to the coaching staff and the Tiger
    football team.
NO ONE hated the Florida game more than I did!
I could care less about the AU game at this point!

Money CAN'T and WON'T solve every problem whether anyone believes Les
Miles should be the coach or not.
Let's raise the minimum wage to 2 million a year and expect everyone to do
2 million dollars worth of work!

Who was available at the time Les was hired btw?
Seriously, I don't remember anyone being available that was worth it?
I just think this is a pathetic thread!:dis:

we most certianly had a chance to get Petrino and we picked Miles over him (still boggles the mind), also we would have had to pay Del Rio that much but we convieniently figured out a way to screw that up...I mean seriously, who in the world DOESN'T clear an interview with that coach's current employer? Either we messed that up on purpose because for some reason we didnt want to pay him, or Skip is just plain incompetent as Athletic Director.

I would have paid $2 million a year and gone after someone like Jim Tressel from Ohio State. At the time, it was looking like Ohio State was going to get hit with probation. That guy would have been perfect with this talent. By the way, how the hell did Ohio State not get on probation with all the Maurice C. money deals and the boosters, etc.? I don't even think we contacted the guy. Oh well...

But in after the 2004 season when Miles was hired, Rodriguez had posted W-L records at WVU of:

    2001 3-8
    2002 9-4 Continental Tire Bowl
    2003 8-5 Gator Bowl
    2004 8-4 Gator Bowl

So, at the time of our coaching hire, Rodriguez's Continental Tire Bowl and 2 Gator Bowl appearances were equal to 2 million???

Rodriguez is only 7-18 all-time vs teams ranked in the top 25.

If you were willing to shell out 2 million bones to Rodriguez following the 2004 season, then you're obviously a better person that I.

Sure, now, with WVU having drop-kicked UGA in the Sugar Bowl in January (and how many actually saw that one coming??), and now ranked in the top 5, it's easy to claim that he was/is worth the 2 million/year. But a year and a half ago, you're telling me you were POSITIVE that he would be worth that???

Plus, Rodriguez lettered for WVU. Going back to be the head coach at his old school HAD/HAS to be a highlight for him.

You guys are in dream land, to think Tressel would leave Ohio State for LSU!
Petrino, I'm not convinced he is worth it or how good he is?

Seriously, things could be worse, look at the CU Buffs for instance!

You just have to be really cautious with hiring a guy like Tressel, who's had NCAA probation looming overhead at both Ohio State and at Youngstown St. when he was there.

Not saying I wouldn't have liked his abilities, but I don't know if I would like the fact that the NCAA has their eye on him like the FBI has it on organized crime.
