If we had not choked in the one game against UF this year that the national media would give us our due respect? My thought is no. I believe they would still suck USC's hole and that the arguments would not be about who should be number two but why so many teams should be ahead of LSU. BCS would still be on the hunt to screw us at any opportunity and so on. I have whined in a few posts about the BCS, etc. but the truth is it is so incredible to be cheering for an LSU team that is #3 in the country and has even the slightest chance of playing for a NC that none of that crap really matters much. I'm much happier to assume that we don't really have much of a shot at the NC and quietly wait to be pleasantly surprised.
I think we would be number 2. I think we would be have much better Computer Averages, a poll average of 2, and one less point for one less loss...It's an interesting question, but I think we would two...
I didn't state my question clearly. I feel confident we would be #2 but I think everyone would say we didn't earn it and continue to mentally promote others as a tougher team, a better defense, more deserving, "firing on all cylinders" (as I keep hearing about USC) etc.
of course you would be undefeated. you see how OSU got no respect untill they were one of the last two unbeatens? they didnt win big but they won and the media gave them respect. the outcome of the NC could be debated though.
I think that pretty well sums it up. There might still be people saying that USC is the better team, but there is no doubt in my mind that we would be getting a lot more acclaim as an unbeaten.
