Do you think we'll have more trouble stopping the run than in the last 2 years?

I agree with aubie. Fast linebackers is a big plus. I will take speed at lb over size anyday. As far as dline chase will be starting not kriston. I believe we will be fine. I don't think will get popped with big plays because we want be taking as many risk.

Lighter = quicker. I'm not worried.

I remember when State came in here about 4 years ago w/ this highly touted
O-line that averaged about 350 across the front. Our smaller, quicker D-line had those big ol' boys sucking some serious wind by late in the 3rd quarter. Give me speed over size any day.

In these guys cases they all have talent as proven by the fact a helluva lot of big time schools were dying to ink these guys. This defense will live and die by execution plain and simple. If they use their talent, skill, knowledge of what to do and who to do it to , in combination with desire and chemistry they will excell. if not then the D will struggle a little bit. What I really see is the offense being so damn good the D will find itself playing a lot of pass D. With the exception of AU, TENN, FLA, and maybe BAMA, the rest of their opponents will be trying to come from 14-21 if not more from behind.

    No, I'm not.

It ain't all about size and it definitely ain't all about weight. Quickness and leverage are more important for a defensive lineman. He can't afford the time to get involved in some sort of sumo pushing match with an offensive lineman. A DL must get quickly past his opponent with explosive speed off the line and by stunting with his colleagues. Defensive linemen tend to be shorter and lighter than offensive linemen

A DL needs a certain amount of size, but no excessive weight which would inhibit his quickness. LSU's defensive line is adequately heavy but still has foot speed. I don't think they are significantly lighter than Nicks front four, either. You got any numbers to support that?

An even better case can be made for quick linebackers. These days, linebackers are more likely to be oversized safeties than undersized linemen.

Kyle Williams (Sr) + Claude Wroten > Kyle Williams (Soph) + Chad Lavalais...

While Chad was better than either KW or CW, the combination is better now... KW and CW will anchor the middle just fine, which either or both drawing doubles.. thats the key.. if one or both of them has to draw a double, that frees the speedy linebackers up to pursue the run... however, if KW and CW get blocked one-on-one, then those speedy linebackers are gonne get plowed... If that starts happening, then we'll need to go bigger at DE to occupy more blockers... maybe slide KW outside every now and then and stick Dorsey or Favorite in the middle.. speaking of Favorite, how is he coming along? Dorsey was the #5 DT in 04, but Favorite was #7... both are 300+...
Somethign else to look at.. can al jones and ricky jean-francois step in and play LB? jones did in the bayou bowl.. they would kick the size of the lbs up significantly..
