Just curious what you guys think about the state of our LSU football team in these times. Obviously, we've had a lot of success in recent years. Does that mean that every year we should be hoping to win a National Championship? My friends and I now expect the Tigers to go undefeated, then play for a NC... each season. We cringe - and get depressed- every year after our first loss. Are we setting the bar to high? What do you guys think? Is it fair to expect this from our Tigers? Again, just curious to hear what other Tiger fans think.
Sure you can, but it ain't really very realistic. Of course it's not. This is self-destructive behavior that sets you up for a bad time. Better to be cautiously optimistic and leave yourself room for excitement when we excell. All I want from the Tigers is to be a perennial top-10 candidate and a regular SEC Title contender with a occasional shot at the National Title. That's all anybody can ask of a team and that's what the team has delivered in the 21st Century. I hope we get a NC shot this year with the favorable schedule we have. But another top-10 finish with 2 or 3 losses is still pretty damn good and better than most schools will finish, so we should damn well be proud of that kind of performance, too.
Enjoy your discomfort of an LSU loss while you can. This has been an unbelievable time for LSU fans and who knows how long it will last. It wasn't long ago we were just hoping to be bowl eligible and losing was almost expected. Now when we play Florida, Auburn, Bama etc. we expect to win.
i agree with lvtgrfn in that if it is something you hope for you are ok. it is something all fans think would be nice. however, if it is something you expect, that is unrealistic.
Dammit Red, why do you have to be a liberal? Otherwise I'd say you were the smartest guy on the forum.
Do I hope for a NC every year? YES Do I expect a NC every year? NO I do believe we should be in a BCS bowl every year and win the SEC at least once every 3 years. I just keep getting disapointed with who we get paired with in BCS bowls. January's bowl match up should have been with USC in the Rose Bowl. Both schools would have been way geared up for that one. However, it is always nice to win our Sugar Bowl.:helmet:
I'm not a liberal, I'm a moderate. If you are way right, there are other folks to the left of you besides liberals.
You know, maybe it is a little crazy to 'expect' a national championship. Afterall, there are over 100 schools out there who no doubt want the same thing each year, whether possible or not. It's just that I know the caliber players and coaches we have, and I have high expectations for them. TenTexLA had a good point in that we should at least expect a BCS bowl appearance. I think it's fair to believe we're that good these days.
Put last year into perspective. Great year. GREAT GREAT year! We finished 3rd in the SEC West. How many schools can do that?
