The only TJ Moran joint that I haven't eaten at yet. I'm gonna be eating there tonight, any suggestions on what to order and what to stay away from? I've heard that the Italian portion of the menu isn't all that great which is odd because it is a mostly Italian place from my understanding. Anybody had the steaks? I'm a meat and potatoes man myself so I'll definitely be giving that portion of the menu the once-over.
I either get the stuffed Portabella Mushrooms, Eggplant Mary, or the Crabmeat Cheesecake for an appetizer. Cup of the Eggplant Bisque and I mix it up for the Entree. Here is the menu if you want to start planning early. I enjoy most of the food no matter what I get. http://www.ruffinosrestaurant.com/
Thanks for the link. I didn't even think to go check out the menu online.:thumb: Right now it looks to be between the Prime Rib and the Ribeye. Both come with garlic mashed potatoes. A nice bottle of shiraz or merlot should compliment either quite nicely. 8:30 can't come soon enough.
I went to Ruffino's about a month ago and got the canneloni. I swear to god it tasted like bad mexican food. There red gravy (not marinara) was really thick and had a spice flavor similar to Mexican. The canneloni pasta was really thick which made it similar to a tortilla. The meat inside was overcooked and instead of sausage, they used cubed ham. It was HORRIBLE. I would have sent it back but I was with girlfriends family. I ate a quarter of it and left the rest. Girlfriend had the eggplant caserole and it came out in casserole form, which means they probably make it in the morning or night before. Needless to say, the eggplant wasn't crispy and was soaked with the terrible red gravy. Her mother had the planked fish and it was not cooked all the way through. I had that the time before and it was excellent. Service had alot to be desired. No bread plates; slow on refilling drinks, food comes out on a CART. I am a pretty easy person to please, but this wasn't even close. Maybe they had a bad night but I will never go back to find out. There are too many great famous restaurants 45 min to an hour away in New Orleans if you get tired of eating the same thing in Baton Rouge. Off the topic, but has anyone tried D'Agostino's downtown? How was it?
Dinner was really good. We started with the crabmeat cheesecake (thanks bhelm) and it was awesome. The ribeye was great as well. To top it off we saw JaMarcus there. He got there right after we did and left after us (we were there with friends for over 2 hours). I overheard him telling some big wig that somebody (I couldn't hear the name) told him that he'd never seen anyone throw a football like that. It sounded like a scout of some sort to me. He's much bigger in person. All in all I had a good time and will definitely go back.
My friend Samuel runs D'Agostino's for his dad. I havent been there yet but I promised I would make it soon. All my friends say it is great. His Dad runs the other Restaurant in town and that place is good too. It is called Samuel's.
Ruffin does serve one of the better steaks in town. The italian dishes aren't all that great. The cedar plank redfish is normally excellent. And occasionally, he has some Kobe beef. Pricey, but very tasty.
