20/37 for 267 yds at least three dropped passes Tight end just falls down when he's wide open and russel throws him a great pass should have been TD to lafell (or at least a 15 yd penalty) on the PI no-call PI call then no call to doucet down the middle of the field... I know he should have thrown the ball away, but the more I see it, the more I think he had a mand ownfield that he had a shot at and underestimated the pressure... I dont think he was trying to run with the ball I havent made my mind up yet, but everyone's complaining about russel's game and to me he played well... not to mention he had NO running game to speak of oline pass protection was superb
When a QB has NO running game, and he is not Brett Favre or Peyton Manning, he will rarely win a game by himself against a top 5 team, with a top 2 defense. And Dickson misjudged the pass. I think he thought it didn't have the air it had under it and when he figured that out, he dove. He's a true freshman, so I can forgive him.
As a whole, yes, he did pretty well. On the last drive...he could've have made better decisions: 1. Not take a tackle for a loss and have to waste time by setting up and spiking it 2. Should've put the ball in the endzone, not make the receiver have to work around defenders to score the TD.
Russsell played a fine game. Nearly pulled it out at the end. There were 5 drops, 4 of which would have continued drives. The 1st 2 (maybe 3) would have likely led to scores. The sack at the end was unfortunate, probably due to his competitiveness. He thought he could make a play. Anyone can pick out a bad play here and there, but look at the defense he was up against.
I just don't see how this answer can be anything but yes. The dropped pass total was 6. Bowe had 3 Doucet 2 and Hester 1. Although Hester's was the one that got reviewed and called incomplete. JR also completed another 40 yards of passes that were called back for penalties. He made a few mistakes, and they came at a bad time. But he made less mistakes than anyone on our offense, and he touches the ball on every play. The throw to Buster on the final play was not his best option, but he got the ball to a playmaker close to the goal line. If the Auburn defense doesn't pop Davis so squarely, he spins off of the hit and walks in for the win.
Yes, JR played a very good game. I have one red mark for saying so on another thread, and, yes, I'll say it again, JR played a very good game. He can improve, and so can we all!
He played a good game, but he made mistakes a two-year starter shouldn't make such as not throwing the ball away on that last drive. That alone cost us 5 secs and poss one final shot at the endzone. Early in the game he was throwing behind the recievers or high but eventually settled down. He is at his best throwing downfield which is why it frustrates me that Fisher keeps calling those short dump off passes and screens which require Russell to put some "touch" on the ball which he sucks at. If we had stretched the field and thrown down field often and early perhaps the running game would have improved.
To say that JR played a bad game would just be nitpicking. He played with poise and put the ball where it needed to be on all the important throws, most importantly, NO TURNOVERS. I mean what else can you ask for from your quarterback?
Adequate. I think with his given circumstances, he couldn't have played a much better game. He's only a QB, not the whole team. No matter how great or terrible a QB is, a team should never let or allow one person to carry a game. There is no i in what? Or should I say (y)(o)u?
