move the ball to the other side of the hash after the game resumed after the rain delay? He walked up to the ball - which was being guarded by a state trooper - and picked it up and moved it to the other side of the hash (closer to the goal line). The trooper found an official and ratted Nick out. The official moved the ball back to its original location.
DAMN! Can't trust those "Staties" for anything can you?! Must have been from Monroe! Good try anyway, Nick!
Didn't notice that, but I guarantee you that about 10,000 students were thinking, "How much trouble would I get if I ran on the field, scooped up the ball and took it 80 yards for a touchdown?"
I think you are supposed to get tresspassing. I assume its a misdemeanor and if you got a clean record you probably get a fine and some community service.
What actually happened was his ball boy was talking to Saban near the ball. The kid then stooped over, picked up the ball and walked off. Saban looked looked in amazement at him, called him back to him and began to roast him for what he had done. Jim Hawthorne also described it on the radio. The kid then put the ball back down and began to walk away. But Saban picked it up and placed it about a foot from where his ball boy put it. He was not happy with his manager. Saban talked to his trooper who then talked to the officials about it. Then the officials picked up the ball and walked off with it, eventually placing it back for the game to play.
