I see in the news today that Jobless claims hit 3 year low. But i think to myself what are these new jobs. Taco Bell and Burger King expanding.

We have destroyed the manufacturing base of this country. We dont make anything anymore. Sure we have fast food jobs and those type of jobs but all of our manufacturing has moved to cheap labor countries.

I will tell all of you that slowly and over time our economy is being ripped away piece by piece.

Our government is for sale to special interest groups and believe me countries like China know it. That is why they buy our elected officials and have them vote favorably with them on trade issues. How else can you explain the trade deficit of a country that used to be the biggest exporter.

We dont make anything anymore. I see it in my company. We go to Asian manufacturers to save money and then American jobs are lost.

Pat Buchanan was chastised for making some of these same comments running for President. He was right and time will prove it. The difference between the growing wealth and poverty is in the loss of good decent middle class jobs.

How do we compete with these countries like China and Korea and other places where they work people like slaves. Where is the liberal outcry about this in this country.

I am going to start buying American products whenever i can. It is time we stop being so dependent on other countries.

    Buy American!!!

We've taken decades to get to this point and having grocery store clerks strike for higher wages (here is Los Angeles they have been on strike for almost two months) is not the answer.

There is no quick fix. However, there is a fix, but I'm concerned that we have not only lost track of how to fix it, but worse yet, do not have the inclination to do what it takes to fix the problem.

What does it take to fix...??? Simply, take advantage of the rich and free country we have and apply ourselves. The effort has to start as children. Study, study, study. Master the sciences as well as the humanities. With the head-start we have on the world, we should welcome world competition, but the pitiful truth is we have become lazy and expect something for nothing while the rest of the world is thankful for the opportunity to work and succeed.

Almost all IT jobs and accounting are being outsourced to India.

The problem is that we need to change with the times - manufacturing jobs of yesterday are tech jobs of today. Nothing will change that - no law, no pleads- nothing.
Other nations need to improve their standard of living, are willing to do manufacturing cheaper- and manufacturing is physically hard work
And, obviously, as other nations improve their standards, they have $$ to buy our products with and that helps us.

Tech jobs require some skills - well, no one has ever paid much more than the minimum for unskilled work.

What worries me is the exportation of tech jobs.

But manufacturing jobs will continue to decline and it's unstoppable.

JD i disagree on thae fact that manufacturing is unstoppable.

The problem with your argument is you assume a fair playing field.

    There is not one.

How do American Companies compete in the Textile market. When you have Asia based people being worked as slaves. How does an american worker compete with that. Are you saying that we should lose those jobs because our workers wont work for cents a day. How does a worker in America live on cents a day and support his family no matter how good a worker he is.

And the problem is we dont work from a fair competiton. We allow these people to dump Trillions of dollars worth of products on our market while the block the import of our products and control our American Companies ability to work in their country.

Our negotiated trade agreements were a sham and protect our enemies more than they do us. Check how many people in China have been arrested for piracy on music and other Tech inventions.

Do you think China gives a damn whether Americans eat. The tide is turning and these other countries have figured out how to abuse Democracy and it is from within.

They own our politicians who make the laws that allow these things to happen.

This along with the moral decay of our families is leading to the problems we see in our society as a whole.

I wish i had all the answers but if i have a choice i am going to buy American.

The answer isn't to "protect" jobs, but to create NEW AND BETTER jobs for our people who used to work in the textile mills- why by the way is extremely taxing work on the body- the last sweatshops (literally)
