    Those F'in' liberals. :hihi:

In the very unlikely case that there actually was prisoner abuse happening at Gitmo, does anyone expect that it would continue when inspectors arrive? Seems like a moot point to me.

These friggin' terrorists are eating better than the troops that captured them. Those guys often have to subsist on 3 MREs a day when in the field.

You can forget Amnesty International, they would criticize Andy and Barney for mistreatment of Otis. Until there is no jail in the world, they will not be happy. They are a one-issue group and their criticism of practically every nation on the planet makes their rhetoric kind of lame. They have cried wolf too often.

But if we have nothing to hide, then why not just let the UN inspectors go to Guantanamo? The International Red Cross has sent inspectors regularly since 2002 and only last June's visit criticised the administration privately about torture allegations.

If they find no evidence of torture then independent confirmation may cause a lot of wild speculation about it to die down. Sure prisoners will complain and bitch and swear they are innocent and lie if neccessary to get some attention. But prisoners do that everywhere, even in the shiniest, perp-friendly prisons in Sweden or the Netherlands. A little openess about the detention center would make a lot of these rumors go away.

And they need to go away. Rule one about prisoners of war is that you treat your prisoners the way you would want your own POWs to be treated. Sooner or later we are going to have our soldiers taken prisoner and we are going to want them to be visited by the Red Cross and the UN. And we aren't going to want them tortured.

I agree to a point but the point of this whole thing is they've already had hearings which was supposed to resolve these and other questions. Did that stop the chest thumping though in Congress and the UN? No.....they want to keep looking until they find something.

It has nothing to do with how the prisoners are being treated.....do you think a Congresswoman from Oregon really cares? Her main motivation is to go there and try and find something so they can use it against Bush. Bottom line.

Come on people, we cannot allow the UN to go in there. Hell, we might as well just hand them the keys to our nation. Some are missing the point of the article. A few of the most critical of Gitmo went down there and could not find anything wrong. If they thought that the military spruced things up for them just to make the place look better, they would have said so.

I can't help but wonder if the democratatic leadership ordered them to make supporting statements in order to repair some of the damage done recently. Maybe they felt that they had taken this to far and were trying to do a little damage controle.

Regardless, we cannot open Gitmo up for the likes of the UN. We, America, are above that. It does not matter what they see or discover, they will take it back to europe and use it against us. They couldn't find the weapons in Iraq, but, they sure as hell will find something wrong with Gitmo.
