Delays should not affect opener

Club seats will not be ready at first

After recent concerns that Tiger Stadium’s $60 million west upper deck would not be ready in time for the opening of the 2005 football season, LSU Athletics and Tiger Athletic Foundation officials said Wednesday that some minor delays are expected.

Club seats — stadium seats with access to a large area with catered foods and drinks — will not be completely ready for the September 3 season opener against North Texas.

TAF President Ronald Richard announced Tuesday that the construction of the 3,200 club seats has been delayed because of some “unseen obstructions.”

Herb Vincent, associate athletic director for External Affairs, said that he and other officials expected that certain finishings like carpeting and wood paneling may not be complete by the first game, but that those will not prevent the club seats from being used.

“This is a very large construction project to complete between football seasons,” Vincent said. “This delay will not keep ticket holders from occupying the club area.”

Greg Bower, vice president of the Louisiana Chemical Association, said his organization bought season tickets in the Tiger Den suites.

These suites cost between $40,000 and $90,000 per year. Tiger Den suites are already complete.

“No buyer should expect for them to complete such a large project in such a small amount of time,” Bower said.
