Honestly, shouldn't we require a certain level of intelligence, football knowledge, and testosterone to start threads around here? It’s getting ridiculous if you ask me.

Officially, I’m no redneck, but isn’t the sight of Jack Del Rio toting a shotgun in the back of a pickup truck pretty cool? Just think, Del Rio was out standing up for what he believed in when years later the MLB players were lying on beaches around the world leaving America without baseball…

New Panthers coach mixed it up with Chiefs legend
    By JEFFREY FLANAGAN

Former Chiefs linebacker Jack Del Rio is expected to be introduced as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars today. When you mention the name Del Rio in these parts, you can't help but think of Otis Taylor as well.

Del Rio and Taylor were involved in one of the ugliest incidents in the 1987 NFL strike, the last time the NFL went on strike.

Del Rio, along with several other players, was picketing outside the stadium offices when Taylor, then a Chiefs scout, tried to walk through the line with some replacement players he had scouted.

Del Rio did not recognize Taylor and thought he was a replacement player, too. Taylor said Del Rio called him a "dirty scab" and a "lowlife."

A scuffle ensued, and witnesses reported that Del Rio got Taylor in a headlock and body-slammed him to the ground. Another striking player, Dino Hackett, and sports agent Charles Meek eventually separated the players.

Kansas City Star sportswriter Randy Covitz was covering the strike story and was on the scene. He said once Del Rio finally recognized Taylor, Del Rio said, "Hey, Otis, I used to love watching you. You were a great player."

Taylor did not take the incident lightly and filed a criminal complaint against Del Rio. But the Kansas City prosecutor did not file charges.

Taylor then filed a $1 million lawsuit against Del Rio, player representative Nick Lowery and the NFL Players Association. The case was settled out of court two years later.

Taylor, who recently retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Yeah. I heard Del Rio once passed gas. We don't need someone like that coaching LSU. We need a coach who doesn't own an ax or have a excretory system. Why can't we find a candidate who has never done something that an idiot could criticize him for?

How stupid was New England's owner to give up a first round pick to get Belichick. Belichick was a failure when he got a chance to be a head coach in Cleveland. And I don't want Stoops at OU. He has never been a head coach. And, Pete Carroll to USC? The guy was a failure in the NFL. Why give that retread a shot? We could get somebody better than Richt to take the job at Georgia. The guy has never been a head coach before. Frank Beamer? No remember he hit his own player in the head during a game. Bobby Bowden? No, he is too old and is slipping in the last few years.

How about we stop overcriticizing anyone who expresses interest in our job? How about if we were grateful for their interest in us?

No kidding, I fear that some LSU "fans" will become Florida fans and create a fireinsertcoachnamehere.com website upon his hiring. :dis:

So sorry to have struck a nerve.

Del Rio has a history of poor judgement. Not spur of the moment, sympathetic nervous system type poor judgement. It appears to me that he actually thinks about things before exercising poor judgement.

Having million dollar atheletes swing an axe at a stump in the locker room to prove a point? He should have used a hand grenade drill instead. I think he could have obtained more mileage out of it.

Wonder why he's considering leaving a great NFL job when he such an "up and comer"?

Peace and Love to all in this new year.

PS. Aren't some of the posters slamming on this thread the ones saying Nick was the Anti-Christ one week ago?

Let me know when you are ready to drink your first beer responsibly!!!!!

Da woist ting dat coid happen to ya ...

happen to ya, Rock ... ya got civilized! ( Mickey to Rocky, Rocky III).

Hey, this is football. The basic premise of the game is to knock the sh!t out of the guy lined up across from you. If Jack Del Rio acted uncivilized a time or two in his life, I don't think that disqualifies him from coaching at The Ole War Skule. Certainly a pattern of poor judgment is not an attribute to seek in a head coach, but, a little macho behavior every now and then shouldn't be discouraged in FOOTBALL COACHES!

This would be the 3rd gayest post in TF history.

Sounds like you guys have your man.

Any truth to the rumor that Jacksonville is relieved?
