Definitive List of Games that can help/hurt LSU's BCS ranking OK, I'm about done with the BCS thinking until after Friday's game, but I wanted to finalize this list of games that are being played this week and next... I've highlighted the teams that, if they win, help LSU in the BCS rankings, but I'm not sure it's 100% complete and/or accurate. Note that games that have both teams grayed out are ones that I currently think have no bearing on USC's or LSU's BCS rankings, but I included all of the games in case I'm wrong and one of you knows better: Code: (All times Eastern) THURSDAY - NOVEMBER 27 ok 7:45 Mississippi at Mississippi State FRIDAY - NOVEMBER 28 11:00 Louisville at Cincinnati ok noon Nebraska at Colorado 12:00 Ohio at Marshall 1:00 Miami OH at UCF ok 2:30 Arkansas at :lsug: X 3:00 Arizona at Arizona State ok 3:30 Texas at Texas A&M SATURDAY - NOVEMBER 29 12:00 Toledo at Bowling Green ok 12:00 Syracuse at Rutgers X 12:30 Tennessee at Kentucky ok 1:00 Georgia at Georgia Tech ok 1:00 Virginia Tech at Virginia 1:00 Iowa State at Missouri 1:00 Temple at West Virginia X 2:00 South Florida at Memphis X 2:00 UNLV at Wyoming 2:00 Southern Miss at East Carolina X 3:00 Nevada at Boise State X 3:00 TCU at SMU X 3:00 Rice at Louisiana Tech X 3:30 Florida State at Florida 3:30 Maryland at Wake Forest 5:00 UAB at Houston 5:00 Fresno State at UTEP 7:45 Alabama at Hawaii 8:00 Notre Dame at Stanford 8:00 Miami FL at Pittsburgh * see this post for explanation of this game Next Week's Games Oregon State vs. USC Syracuse vs. Notre Dame Boise State vs. Hawaii Oklahoma vs. Kansas State
Here are some others that don't affect our SOS but might affect USC's (and, of course, who we should pull for to negatively affect USC's SOS): ND over Stanford (USC played both, but more of USC's opponents played Stanford, so Stanford's loss hurts USC's Opp-Opp record more) Rutgers over Syracuse Wyoming over UNLV Nevada over Boise St. Oklahoma over KSU in Big XII Champ. (Bama played OU) Including a potential LSU vs. ___ in the SECC game, that's a total of 22 games of 33 left in Div. 1-A that will have a factor in deciding who plays for the national championship.
Thanks... my intention was to indicate all games that help LSU's chances of reaching #2, so games that hurt USC's rankings are definitely wanted! I've edited the list of games to match what you've suggested...
Nebraska over Colorado - Colorado plays UCLA, Washington State Memphis over South Florida - South Florida plays Alabama, Memphis plays Ole Miss and Miss State. This would be a net of plus one to our Opp-Opp UTEP over Fresno State - Fresno State plays La Tech, Oregon State, Hawaii. UTEP plays Arizona, La Tech, Hawaii. It would be 2-1 to LSU and 2-2 to USC for Opp-Opp. that would be +1 for LSU.
I know this is based strictly on SOS, but I'm not sure it's better for us for Miami to win. If Pittsburgh beats Miami, Miami is taken out of the Top 10, and increases the likelihood that if Georgia loses, they'll still stay in the top 10. Plus it makes it easier for Florida to pass Tennessee.
Not sure, to be honest. I based the list mostly on other lists. I'd imagine that it could be because having a win over ranked team like Ole Miss is more important than a win over Mississippi State. We've played them both, so it may not make a difference, but since Ole Miss will probably win anyway I'm not sure it's worth spending tons of time on!
Miami losing is definitely a plus. Georgia, should we play them and beat them in the SEC CG, would fall to 9th instead of 10th. That's more QW for LSU. Also, Florida has slightly better chance if we can get Miami FL out the picture so Florida can overtake Tennessee in the BCS standings. LSU then plays Florida and keeps Georgia's QW and Florida would still be 9th after losing to LSU (ever more QW).
