I would rate it a "B". Very promising play by Hawkins. Kid will learn from this game and not go for the interception every time. Eugene looked very good as well. I still don't get McCray playing one on one coverage with a wideout. Don't get it, never will. We have enough guys like Chad Jones and Patrick Peterson to fill the field with speedy DBs. I hope they correct this. It almost cost us tonight. All in all, I am happy and confident LSU can be ultra aggressive with their pass rush and trust the DBs to cover one on one.
IMO McCray needs to bulk up and become a linebacker. He just doesn't have the speed to play in the backfield.
I am not one of the people that has been yakkin' about our DBs, but they didn't exactly face a juggernaut offense tonight. They ARE the weakness of the defense. It is what it is. However, they are VERY talented. Just young. They will be a force...a strong point of the team...before all is said and done.
I think this is a very fair assessment of the situation at hand. Some blown coverages, some technique issues that can easily be fixed. LSU will be aggressive defensively the rest of the year, I can tell you that. And that's what I am most happy about.
Im not gonna say that our dbs are horrible but they played a horrible game last night. I know they can play better. Believe what you want but that was not a good QB throwing the ball against them last night. AU had recievers wide open all night and Todd missed a lot of them. If LSU Dbs do not improve quickly Bama and UF will chew them to shreds. ( I dont know if it is the coaches calling bad plays or if it is the men out of position.) They should never call a play that puts Mcray on a wide reciever all alone, If I can see this I know the coaching staff can. why did it happen at least twice last night?:geaux:
:geauxtige I think LSU tried to take away the run from AU and make them pass the ball. They did and Au made some good reads in the passing game. We did have some blown coverages but auburns passing game was by far and away better than it has been all year. I think all and all our secondary will only get better because of last nights game and our D as a whole will dominate for the most part.
I completely disagree with this assessment of LSU DB play... The DBs made some excellent plays last night... there were really only two problems... 1. Blown assignments by young guys... this is going to happen... let them get their feet under them and the talent will shine through... 2. Danny McCray... this guy was horrible in coverage last year, and the tradition continues... He is playing because he knows the defensive calls... I think he will be fazed out as the season continues... brought in for blitzes only...
