I pray to Allah that you are well. The news here is good. It appears we may be able to step up our timetable for shedding more infidel blood on the American shores. I know you preached patience and insisted upon waiting until that monster is out of the White House, but it appears that he will lose his effectiveness long before that. Already, there are calls from influential leaders in their congress to withdraw troops immediately from Iraq. We will soon be able to resume our operations there. Also, there is talk that the hated Patriot Act, which has so disrupted our infiltration efforts will face severe opposition when it comes up for renewal. As you predicted, the stupid Americans have no stomach for war and very short memories. It seems that our great victory in September 2001 has already been forgotten.
With your permission, I will begin to mobilize our brothers in preparation for the mass execution of infidels which we have been planning for so long now.

    Praise Allah,

    Zarqawi

It's been over 4 years now. How many of your "freedoms" have been infringed upon?
Anyway, you make my point. Terrorists be damned, we want to act as though 9/11 never happened. Fine. That's just the way they want it.

I have a Time magazine from the week after 9/11 with a big picture of the towers falling on it. There's a column right after it where the writers says, no matter what happens after this, we have to make sure we remember why this started. Look at the towers, and you'll remember what started the whole thing. I never want that again, we haven't had it again....it doesn't guarantee we won't, but we need to keep the pedal down and attack these homos wherever they are........

Not to mention that it would have done absolutely NOTHING in the way of preventing 9/11, had it been in place prior to.

also i would really like to hear one person with an actual complaint against the patriot act. how has it really affected you? it hasnt. although it may have affected us in the sense that they stopped bad guys from doing something.

That's too broad of a criteria. Something need not impact you directly to be objectionable. It's kind of like how high gas prices haven't really affected a lot of the people that live in NYC since they don't own vehicles. Does the ban on gay marriage affect you? What about abortions?

When we decided to expand surveillance powers to track terrorists, all residents, not just the terrorists, were affected. A common problem running through many of the new authorities contained in the Patriot Act is the reliance on executive branch supervision rather than meaningful review by a neutral judge of the potentially highly intrusive surveillance techniques that are authorized. With no checks and balances, the Act can be abused for domestic political reasons by executive branch agencies or for the personal agendas of law enforcement personnel.

There are common sense changes that could be made to the new law that would provide better protections for civil liberties without sacrificing security. Because of the rapidity with which the law was enacted, Congress wisely included a four-year sunset on many of the provisions of the new Act. That sunset will allow Congress to make some needed adjustments, hopefully in a calmer climate, and strengthen the protections for civil liberties without sacrificing security.

These adjustments were always part of the plan and now they are being implemented as planned. If we can protect security without sacrificing civil liberties, then what is the problem?

Why not? He advocates incredibly expensive nation building in Iraq by our government.

We may not know if it has affected us. They can search your house without ever notifying you that they did or tap your phones. They can check your email, your web-surfing, your library books, your E-bay purchases, your credit-card expenses and where you traveled and you would never know it. Many of us do not trust the administration with this private information. It can be used for political purposes unrelated to national security. All they need to do is put a judge back into the loop just for some checks and balances against misuse of this unconstitutional power by bureaucrats and police.
