CAN FLA STOP LSU KNOWING THESE FACTS? Les Miles on his talk show Wednesday Night doesn't think they can. Les Miles says it still early in the season and this game's importance is being dramatized. Les Miles says LSU will try to go toward a more balanced attack. LSU TENDENCIES IN 2006 (Remember the Number 38) ULaLa game --- LSU 36 rushes + 23 passes Arizona game --- LSU 38 rushes + 23 passes Auburn game --- LSU 38 rushes + 37 passes (15 in 4th Qtr) :dis: Tulane game --- LSU 32 rushes + 28 passes Miss St game --- LSU 38 rushes + 23 passes 182 rushes / 5 = 36+ rushes per game 134 passes / 5 = 26+ passes per game This is not a "balanced attack". This is a RUSHING ATTACK being forced to be a RUSHING ATTACK when it is screaming to be a passing attack. Don't get me wrong here! I'm a advocate of a strong running game. But c'mon. Even the pope knows LSU will run the ball much more than pass against Fla. That FLA DC knows! He's licking his chops because a child can see an LSU rushing play coming 7/10 times. IMO, LSU rushing yardage would be greater each game IF: 1. LSU passed 35 times a game and ran 25 times, that's 60/40! You can bet your last red cent: 1. FLA WILL STACK THAT LINE SATURDAY WITH 8 MEN. 2. FLA WILL STUFF THE LSU RUNNING GAME = less than 100 yds 3. FLA WILL BE WAITING FOR THOSE (15) 4TH QUARTER LSU PASSES. Miles & Co better wake up! The season IS THIS SATURDAY. Lose and it's over for LSU in 2006.

LSU & Opponent stats Rushing Attempts............ 167 150 Average Per Rush............ 4.3 2.3 Average Per Game............ 144.6 69.2 Att-Comp-Int................ 134-90-2 134-61-9 Average Per Pass............ 10.0 4.6 Average Per Catch........... 14.9 10.2 Even the most blind among you can see where LSU's strength is on a "per play" basis. WHY DOES LSU COACHING INSIST ON RUSHING 36+ times a game? :dis:
Four of those games were decided by halftime. Four out of a possible five. Of course we are going to run the ball with a huge lead. I do agree that we got caught up in the conservative "field-position" game against Auburn and it probably cost us the game. That and horrifyingly bad calls by the refs.
or more specifically... horrible horrible calls by the officials. the most important call of that game wasn't in the fourth quarter, it was in the first when les's "conservative" play calling came out, PASSED the ball on 4th and 1, caught it but had it reversed due to sorry officiating. statistics can be skewed back and fourth esp with all the cupcake games, but the conservative playcalling in auburn did much less to hurt us than the fact that we knew for g-ddam sure that big plays were not going to be decided by us. we learned that lesson in the FIRST quarter on the first gutsy call and that lesson was reinforced on every single pass play called. this conservative play calling criticism is really just out of line.
I can't believe he said the importance of the game is being dramatized. Is this for real? Surely he is not feeding this tripe to the players. I can understand running the ball so much agains MSU, Arizona, etc. Games were out of reach, give your struggling RB's and new RB's some time to adjust with PT. But in the Auburn game, it was ridiculous to run the ball as much as they did, especially in the 2nd half. Believe UF has seen that and will try and stop the run because Miles will not lessen the running game even though it is going no where. Jimbo and Miles better wake up from this pattern.
I'll take that bet ...... LSU will have greater than 100 yards rushing. Bet the ranch.... hell, bet yo' momma's ranch while you're at it. If you want to win the SEC, you MUST impose your rushing attack on your conference opponent. All other statistics are meaningless, in fact. Like the old saw says, "figures lie, and liars figure"
LSU had 19 running plays vs AU plus 4 scrambles by JR, I'd say 41 passing plays and 19 running plays is not a rishing attack. Worrying about what we did in the 4 blowouts is simply stupid.
I've posted this before, and I'm posting it again. Before Darby played Florida, he aveaged 3.1 yards a tote. Against Florida, they allowed him an average of 5.4 yards a carry. So, I think we have a chance. If they run Tebow and he gets popped and fumbles, we'll have a lot of room to call what we want, especially if we jump out to a quick start, which is what I see Florida doing. They'll try to strike quick... watch...
