He may be right, but it's just crazy to hear DD not being overly optomistic. What do you guys think about the LB situation.

I agree that the linebackers were indeed the weak spot of our defense last year and probably will continue to be so this year. There are no playmakers in the group. You need playmakers at the linebacker position.

Dandy Don also said before the NCAAs that Duke would be the #1, #1 seed... so you have to view the source!

I agree we need more depth at linebacker, I honestly don't see how star LB would not want to start @ LSU rather than going to some of these other schools who are stacked.

I only disagree about Vaughn. I think hes a playmaker this year. The others I havent really seen enough to judge.

Average SEC linebackers are still pretty damned good and a good coach can win with them. These players were all highly rated athletes and although there are no stars among them, I think they can play this here game.

I don't worry about linebackers in 2005. I worry about kickers.

Both Vaughan and Hollis will be way above average this year. Vaughan may be great in the middle.

IMO, we have not had a good linebacker recruit since Faulk and James. Not only did Saban fail to sign a good quarterback but linebackers have been no better than average. The only two that could make a one on one tackle have been Alexander the converted safety and Hollis. The guy we had playing middle linbacker the past couple of years, even though the weighed more than 250 lbs, let average running backs drag him down the field.
We need linebackers. Before James and Faulk the safeties were leading the team in tackles. After James and Faulk the safeties are again leading the team in tackles.
