is staying why doesnt he announce it? To me it seems he should just get it over with if he knows. My thinking is he doesnt know.......but you seem to be so certain.
It's hard to come up with a reason why he hasn't announced. There is little doubt Miami has presented Sexton with exactly the terms of any potential deal - so he knows whether it meets his criteria or not. One reason is that it does not meet it (but does wish to hear them out)..and that Miami is 'tweaking' it. If that is the case Nick may be waiting on the 2nd or 3rd proposal. This is highly unlikely to me since Miami wants Saban badly and would probably accept all of his terms...but it is a possibility. Also he may be giving deference to Miami's search, since it was leaked he met with Miami so early and Miami has taken a big media hit. Maybe he is not announcing anything to preserve Miami's credibility - and when they announce they're hiring another coach other than Saban they'll look like they were legitimately looking all along. It could also be the family illness situation. Maybe he does want to put undue stress on his family at this time by starting a media storm (at least in La.) by announcing he's staying. Again...these are very big stretches, but if you're looking for reasons why he hasn't announced... It would only make sense that he has either decided to accept and is waiting on the minority situation to clear up, or has decided he wants the job - but the terms have not satisfied him yet so Sexton is negotiating.
It could be this, just an idea. If Saban rejects Miami, without them formally extending an offer, it would indicate he just does not like the situation there (draft position next few years, cap room, front office, etc.). Then Miami looks bad, i.e. Saban wouldn't even touch the job. After an offer, he could just say he couldn't come to business terms with them, and I think that sounds better. Just a guess.
Its very clear that Saban is interested in the job, more to the point "wants" the job. Miami must satisfy the Rooney Rule(which they will today-Art Shell) then present Saban with an official offer. Miami claims they want to interview Jim Bates,so they may waite till late in the day tuesday or simply make the offer Wed., my guess is they will make the offer on tue, and perhaps an announcement comes by fri.
Man, you guys are seriously stroking Crawfish's on this thing - I bet he took a week off of work to allow more time for all of you to suck his kneecaps. I hope he's right, but if you're honest with yourself you will realize that your knuckles are white from gripping a thin thread attached only to WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR. Common sense tells us that Coach Saban is not taking all this time to write a "Thanks, but no thanks" letter to the Miami Dolphins. He is, at the very least, considering the offer and studying the terms and conditions - is this something you would do if you were definitely not going to leave your job? Do you think he and Jimmy Sexton think that a review of an offer will simply make for dynamite bathroom reading? Time is melting away and we are in the heat of the recruting war and quickly approaching a big showdown with a tough, focused, and disciplined Iowa team on National Television - so, with that in mind, all of you truly believe that Crawfish has some pearl of wisdom that he stumbled upon at the bottom of his boiling pot? Once again, I hope he's right and he's been right before. I just can't bring myself to remove common sense and reason from my thought process...
crawfish knows nothing more than any of us know. people are just trying to hang their hat on something positive. crawfish, and his infinite wisdom, are no more than the ground hog who predicts four more weeks of winter. fart and see which way the wind blows. it's becoming painsakingly obvious that nick saban is heading to miami, save some 11th hour deal killer. let's get on with our lives and our football program that will be pre-season top 5 in 2005.
And if there is a deal killer, and he stays, I suppose you won't give Crawfish credit for being right?
