So I had heard that Elizabeth Edwards got po'd at Ann Coulter for some typically provocative/nasty comments directed at John Edwards. JE had said months ago he would ignore her so as not to give her any more attention. Now I understand that the Edward's campaign has posted a video of Coulter on their website and asking for $$ to stop her hate mongering. The Coulter Cash site is hoping to raise $100k (I believe they've passed 300 already) for this effort. Plus, they are using text messaging to urge voters to visit this website. I find it all a bit hypocritical and it leaves me wondering who is doing the using.
One smart way to counter Colter's shock-jock journalism is to expose her baiting style to an unsupportive audience. Colter is a darling of the right and that was who she was playing to. The middle and left didn't pay any attention to her any more than the right pays attention to Michael Moore. So now the Edwards campaign can use her rude, inflammatory and provocative rhetoric to fire up support for their own cause. Even better, they can use her public comments to make even more campaign money!. She ends up helping the other side and discrediting herself at the same time. Coulter has become another unpleasant distraction for the republicans and is helping to cost them crossover votes from the middle and left. Live and learn, Ann! Going over the line has consequences. It's the "Macacca" syndrome. In the YouTube era there is no private audience. You can say things to a closed audience of Young Republicans and someone will video it on a phone, make it available internationally with hours, and liberal bloggers will be ripping it before breakfast,
It's a win-win for both Coulter and Edwards. Coulter gets pub for her new book, which is why she says these outrageous things. The media and people take the bait every time. Edwards gets free media attention and donations, two things he desperately needs at this time. He's on the verge of falling out of the top tier of dem candidates. Love or hate her, she's a PR machine.
Guess you missed the talk shows on Air America radio yesterday and MSNBC last night. It's all they talked about. It would have been on CNN last night, but it was Paris Hilton night. Don't think for one second the left don't pay any attention to her. She managed to get the wife of a candidate to call in during a live interview.
I get what you're saying but I have a hard time believing that the Edward's campaign has such "nice" motives for getting the money. He is pretty far behind in the polls, needed more cash to sustain, and jumped on the opportunity. Nothing wrong with it if they'd just call it what it is. I think they are trying to hard to look like victims. I doubt that Ann Coulter ever says anything without expecting, even planning for it to be on TV, Youtube, the radio. She is pretty good at personal PR.
