How about evacuating over a million people on an interstate system that hasnt been upgraded in thirty years? Maybe if the feds would pony up some highway dollars we wouldn't need to use contra flow.

You know what else we did we assessed taxes on ourselves to the tune of 600 million dollars to improove levies and restore barrier islands. The Feds promised us more money. Ooopps that went to Iraq.

Sourdough you really need to give it a rest because you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Explain. He is correct about the interstates and the levees, both dependent on federal dollars to improve.

I think we need to investigate to see where all the federal dollars in Louisiana went.
Bush spent more money for the poor as well as the levees in Louisiana than the Clinton Administration did.

Bush is definitely a big spender, more so than some of us would like.

I'm not talking about a congressional investigation, those are pointless and
very seldom does the truth ever come out.

    What is your deal?
You know keep saying on this post and others that I don't know what
I'm talking about and don't have a clue.

    Well then,
Its a free country and I'm a free to make an ass out of myself if I want
    too.
Its what this country is all about.

Since I obviously don't have a clue why are you wasting your time telling
    me to rest?
What do you care if I make an ass out of myself or not?

This thread had nothing to do with the hurricane if you read it.
I was respondibg to others, are you trying to tell me what to do? :dis: :yelwink2:

While the Interstate system did not permit travel out of NO at decent speeds. It had nothing to do with the people who decided to stay. Now because Amtrack and other buses were not used other people could have been evacuated but I bet at least 50% of these people and probably higher would still not have left either for health issues and other reasons. We are talking Hospitals, nursing homes, home health care thugs, mentally challenged in a city with huge crime rates and poverty levels. These levels are not here because people are thinking clearly and followig the rules.

    Now whos playing politics?
    Blaming Bush while on vacation?

What could Bush have done differently in Washington DC compared to
    Crawford, Texas.
Is a president ever really on vacation?
It seems to me he would've been better off in Crawford, Texas, closer to
the disaster and could get more done there versus Washington DC.
NOTHING ever gets done in Washington DC, nope, not really!

I have no problem with people going after feds or fema as long as they
put the responsibility where it belongs, including state and local officials.
I do have a problem for people calling for Bush's and Fema's head and
playing games while ignoring state and local officials.

If your going to blame Bush, you should also geaux to Nola.com and read the
transcript of Mayor Blanco's own words included in my sig.
Bush begged and pleaded the governor and the mayor to call for a mandatory
evacuation, if the president wouldn't have done that then this disaster
    would've been much worse.

My understanding is that the interstates did not face a capacity problem in the evacuation. Regardless, the federal government should not build the infrastructure to withstand an evacuation. The interstates are intended for commerce and interstate military transport, not evacuating an entire city that chooses to live in a dangerous area.

The levees, while under the Corps of Engineers, should have been funded more. However, it's folly to think that the US taxpayers should pay for excessive or exorbinant costs to make a below sea level area inhabitable.
