I just looked at some mock drafts and it doesn't look good for LSU at this point. I thought OJ Ojulari was a sure first round pick, but a lot of the so-called experts are projecting him as second round pick at the earliest and one scouting report projected him as a fourth round pick. There is still some time before the draft, so I hope he has one incredible performance at LSU pro day. Boutte, once projected as a top 10 pick in the first round, has completely plunged off the draft board. NFL Network has him as a priority free agent signing! They stated he had too many drops, poor route running and undeveloped catch technique which caused a lot of dropped balls. He's rated as the 23rd best WR in the draft. All I can say is he has no one to blame except himself. He had it all in front of him, but instead of continuing to work hard and improve, he got full of himself, quitting working hard and lost millions in the process. He may have even lost an opportunity to play in the NFL.
Something tells me that BJ will work himself real close to the first round. He has a good work ethic and that goes a long way, not to mention he has some pretty good tape from this past season. I think the players that are going to surprise a lot of people are Jay Ward and Micah Baskerville. I think both of their games are more suited for the NFL. Baskerville (when he was on the field) was always near the ball despite his lack of size. I think his speed/quickness and his ability to read and react is what teams are really going to love about him. I think Ward has really improved since he arrived at LSU. His ability to close in on a receiver, help over the top and his speed to come off the edge on blitzes makes him an attractive player for a lot of teams. I wouldn't be surprised if both had long NFL careers.
It's just interesting to see LSU go from setting an NFL record for players taken in one draft a few years ago to possibly not getting any players drafted in the first round and maybe the second. I still think BJ is going to get drafted pretty high because he has film to back up his stock, but I'm just shocked how Boutte has basically driven his draft status off a cliff. Every time LSU was on all you heard was Boutte being a possible lottery pick and sure first round selection to now being projected a priority free agent signing.
Speaks volumes as to how Oeaux let the success of 2019 go to his head as he allowed the program to deteriorate.
I totally agree and was just trying yo be humorous. Hou-duco hit the nail on the head. Once Orgeron got his big fat contract, his head(s) turned to getting 'Vitamin P' instead of getting NFL caliber players.
I couldn't have said it any better. He really had me fooled. I thought he had grown up and left his wild days in the past, but the boy is clearly keeping the makers of Viagra in business.
