Can someone explain to me why a lot of other sec fans refer to LSU fans as conrdogs? I'm a little confused.

An Auburn fan made a long post on one of their boards and they played it up a bit. Like a lot of LSU fans said, they've never experienced the unique cuisine that Louisiana has and they associate it with the smell of corndogs.

And coupled with the fact that nowhere in Tiger Stadium are corndogs sold and never have I seen anyone tailgating with corndogs.

I thought it was just Auburn fans that called us that, but then I saw some Florida fans making comments about corndogs too. I was just wondering if I was missing out on something.

Auburn fans originated it. A few imature fans of other teams have gotten in on it as well.

    An outsider AU fans explaination

Let me start by saying that I do not know the AU poster who wrote the post, but I am a member of the same Auburn message board. I saw the original post but only after it had been posted for a few days and the thread was way too long to read.

The way I saw the corndog nickname come into being is this: There is a particular poster on the Auburn board that does not post very often, but the regular members look forward to his posts because they are creative and are filled with tongue in cheek sarcasm.

During game week or shortly before, the poster will occasionally write long smack type posts and the smack talk is so far out there that it is usually crystal clear to the reader that it is a joke with its sole purpose being to make people laugh. Well the corndog post was written before the LSU game with the purpose of making people laugh as well. Out of any number of possible nouns, the poster chose the term "corndog" and it kind of caught on.

I think the reason it caught on so fast is because the post was made during a time when controversy and ill feelings existed between our two programs and Auburn fans would jump at any chance to poke fun at LSU (and vise versa) even if the joke does not make any sense. Now it seems that the nickname has stuck and AU fans are using it in a friendlier context. I think the venom from both sides is a lot more diluted nowadays.

The poster has written similar posts aimed toward making fun of other Auburn opponents and most of the time the opposing fans just say Huh. The posts come across as meaningless or stupid to other teams, and has become more like an inside joke between the Auburn board members. The board members look for the next sarcastic post and when it arrives, no effort is made to explain the subject of the posts.

Some posts are so ridiculous that they make you laugh for that reason alone. The subject of the posts usually centers on some particular weakness of the Auburn team or the opposing teams and will often state the opposite of the truth. I remember 1 USC fan that did not catch on that the post was a joke and he bitched and moaned all day over how screwed up Auburn fans were for believing the post because no one took the time to explain the joke.

Anyway, sorry for such a long post, but that is my take on the corndog nickname.

    Dave

I just read the original post on the Auburn board and it's hysterical - nothing to do with football or even reality for that matter - just picking a random, made up reason to pick on Tiger fans and fleshing it out.

highlight: "Maybe, there's a corn dog lotion that they wear"
